ACC country sports coverage is saying FSU is just making waves to stir the ACC pot and get the conference more focused on football and paying more attention as to how the conference sets up the football schedule.   They are saying if the ACC adjusts, FSU ain't going anywhere.

That's all fine and good until schools like Kansas State and Iowa State have upgraded their football stadiums and basketball arenas while FSU is still trying to figure out how to get money to help renovate the Tallahassee Civic Center while the football fans enjoy rousing season ticket packages where they play Wake Forest at home on a Friday night.

See my point on the scheduling . . . read . . . then spew.

If the ACC gives FSU what they want, according to local ACC homers who write for ACC Insider and other pubs, they aren't changing conferences.

One thing that I want to add to this discussion is that the SEC isn't just killing it in football right now.  They're killing it everywhere.  There's a reason they're being called the "Strength Everywhere Conference".  They won eight national titles in the last academic year with a runner up in Baseball.

Football: National Title (Alabama)
Baseball: Runner-up (South Carolina...who won the last two titles before this one).
Women's Golf: National Title (Alabama)
Softball: National Title (Alabama)
Women's Tennis: National Title (Florida)
Men's Outdoor Track and Field: National Title (Florida)
Women's Outdoor Track and Field: National Title (LSU)
Men's Basketball: National Title (Kentucky)
Men's Indoor Track and Field: National Title (Florida)

The catalyst for all of this is football, granted.  However, part of "Project SEC" is creating a conference that dominates everywhere.  Louisville has a strong and diverse athletic department that is competitive all over.  Adding them would not be the worst thing in the world if we grab a football power at #11.

the ACC is the loseriest conference of them all.  every team would change if offered by the stud conferences (Big 12, SEC, Big 10)

Here's a little newsflash from the resident dumbasses (a growing population here at goEMAW.com).

Louisville spends $25-30 million more a year on athletics than K-State does.   Louisville has a bigger football stadium than 4 Big 12 teams do, Louisville will have the biggest basketball arena in the Big 12 and it won't even be close.

Louisville basketball generated more money in FY 2011 than ku and K-State FOOTBALL did . . . combined.

Louisville would step in with the 3rd largest athletic budget in the Big 12.

sorry dax, just because you live in that part of the country doesn't make them not total losers. can't lipstick this pig, friend.

Hey was the Louisville I watched (in person) at the Final Four this last year?  Frank was there too . . . in the stands.  BURN!

sorry dax. just because the louiville AM radio sports broadcasts can be picked up in your car when making a run to target doesn't mean we want them in our conference. not sure what else to say here.  maybe we should look at adding butler too? :dunno:

Even though Louisville has a better basketball program than us, it should be a minimum expectation for K-State to beat them every year, otherwise we need to fire our coach. That'd be a lot worse than finishing 6th in the Big 12 by losing to such a terrible school. I'm sure dax agrees on this

No, I just don't think the ACC will make concessions for them.  If you do for them, you have to do it for VT.  If you do it for VT, you do it for Clemson.  If you do it for Clemson, you do it for GT.

ESPN is calling the shots there because Swofford painted them into a corner by sweethearting Raycom to benefit his son.  They're capped and ESPN owns everything and can dictate everything.  If ESPN wants FSU on a Friday night, they're going to play on a Friday night.

At some point, the butt hurt in being unable to compete with Florida is going to kill them.  It's inevitable.  You can't be a serious program if you aren't part of a serious conference.  Boise keeps trying to break down that door, and they keep breaking their shoulder.  The ACC is not one of the "haves" and won't be for at least 13 years.  That's a long time for them to fall behind.  FSU is ultimately going to have to make a decision between...

Panj . . . Jacksonville might the lamest town to have an major league sports team on the entire planet.   The only time that stadium is full is when Georgia and Florida play there.

That's why the moved the ACC championship game to Charlotte.    Here's the other kicker, if FSU is bitching about how weak the ACC is, how come they don't win it anymore?

Agreed, but that's not the point.  They're still the best "brand" in the ACC with the largest following.

Wasn't it expected to be around 3-4 million extra per team for the Big 12. So this bumps us up to around 8-10 mil. And that doesn't even include the other bowls or the playoff split yet right? So we could be looking at 30 mil plus per year? Is that right or is my math off?

Yeah, something like that.  Probably after Tier 3 is factored in.

Amazing considering we were here (see chart below) just 3 or 4 years ago. Thanks to the dead weight schools for leaving. And thanks UT.

If those teams are big time programs like FSU and Clemson, then yes.

@bws - Well, the truth is that we'd probably get more if the original lineup were together, theoretically.  However, without the defections, we may not have had the unity needed to move forward with equal revenue sharing, partnership with the SEC, etc.

It's hard to say.  What came to pass probably had to come to pass eventually.

I would rather just stay at 11 than add Louisville. Maybe we could tell Louisville that we only will take them if they rename their school Kentucky State? I checked to see if it already exists, and I'm having a hard time believing this is a real school.

Oh yeah, i agree. I was joking.

The one thing I really wonder about now is, if we are making this much from the champions bowl. How much would a Big 12 championship game fetch in this frenzied television rights market? I assume quite a bit more than what the conservative estimates have said.

I'm sure they know what it would bring and have been told by ABC/ESPN.  I'm sure they would get first crack at that.  The new frenzy about how much extra the Champions Bowl is going to make is coming from the bids from cities to host it.  It's been said that New Orleans has a war chest of funds to use in this bid, so I'm guessing that forced Jerry to throw out some ridiculously huge number to get it in Dallas.
