Also interesting little tidbit about Notre Dame...
How big is big? Unless it starts playing better football, Notre Dame may have finally been left behind. The answer to the great question: 'Why do the Irish get special consideration by the BCS?' may end with a playoff. Notre Dame essentially has the same access to the top four as Bowling Green.
everyone is on equal footing. schedule tough, win all your games, you are in.
Yeah, and on top of that, the generally agreed upon rumor is that the other half of the Orange Bowl will be the Big East champion or Notre Dame (if they qualify). A lot of people feel that the only way the Orange Bowl will draw ratings and retain credibility is if they can get Notre Dame in it more often than not. In other years, it will just be Louisville or Boise or something.
I think what this does, coupled with the Orange Bowl announcement, puts off expansion with ACC schools for at least a few years. I still think, ultimately, at least two will want to bail because they'll feel the revenue pains (We'll get 20 million + 4 million + Tier 3 + other better bowl payouts) and hate being in a 14 team conference. FSU and Clemson have had gripes with the ACC in the past that are similar to A&M and Nebraska. You just let those embers burn for a few years, and then getting screwed out of the playoff a time or two will most likely spark some kind of momentum for movement again.
