Also interesting little tidbit about Notre Dame...
How big is big? Unless it starts playing better football, Notre Dame may have finally been left behind. The answer to the great question: 'Why do the Irish get special consideration by the BCS?' may end with a playoff. Notre Dame essentially has the same access to the top four as Bowling Green.
everyone is on equal footing. schedule tough, win all your games, you are in.
A lot of people feel that the only way the Orange Bowl will draw ratings and retain credibility is if they can get Notre Dame in it more often than not.
So are these people just pretending like Notre Dame is actually going to have a good team more often than not or something?
Whether they're good or not is irrelevant. The ACC champion (Virginia Tech) vs. a 9-3 Notre Dame will draw much better than Virginia Tech vs. Boise State.
How many times has Notre Dame gone 9-3 or better in the last 15 years?
Again, irrelevant.
The only way that the Big East may get some form of AQ is if they bundle it with Notre Dame. If ND is eligible, they go, if not, the Big East team goes.
ND already shares bowl tie ins with the Big East. They may just extend it to the BCS so the Big East reserves a spot at the table. That way you kill three birds with one stone.
1. The ACC gets a (potential) opponent to help make their game more desirable
2. The Big East still has some form of seat at the table
3. Notre Dame gets some form of AQ access.
I'm not talking about how deserving ND is. They just make the overall package more desirable.
