And if the snub would have been between the Cotton Bowl and the new four team playoff then it would have been a huge deal.

And in 1998 we should have been in a 4 team playoff if it had existed.  But we fell to the fourth bowl on the Big XII pecking order behind the BCS, Cotton, and Holiday.  Explain that.

Of course I understand.  That's why I was hoping for my pipe dream of the four power conferences matching up their champions and then playing a plus one between the winner of the Champions and Rose Bowls.  While it would have completely shut out some schools, it would have created an actual playoff and would have made every single conference game matter for the teams that were lucky enough to be in the SEC, Big XII, big 10, or PAC12.

What we got is similar to what we had before.  Maybe worse.

The Cotton Bowl last year definitely was a snub, and losing to Arkansas does nothing to prove that K-State did not belong on the field with Michigan or Virginia Tech, two programs that had much shittier teams than Arkansas.

even if it was a snub (which is debateable given our horrible Cotton Bowl performance) the 9th and 10th BCS spots are meaningless.  1998 was more meaningful because we were probably the 3rd or 4th best team.  we ultimately crap the bed and put that into question but who knows.  we would have been in the 4 team playoff if it had been in effect that year.  neither of these two things were kstate getting screwed.  kstate could have taken care of either situation and chose not to by losing and ultimately losing again to make the people who "screwed them over" look right in doing so.

Every successful playoff system, pro or college, makes access available to a host of teams, only a small number of whom actually have a chance of winning.  Cindarellas make tournaments fun for the average, disinterested fan.  Do I give a crap who wins between Alabama, LSU, USC, and OU?  eff No.  Would I watch the first round games between Alabama and TCU, LSU and Boise, USC and K-State?  Yes.

the reason for the playoff was to fix the BCS because people wouldn't quit bitching about how it didn't get the best teams on the firld (though it did a surprisingly good job of getting the best teams relative to the amount of butthurt it caused).  the reason for the BCS was to get one champion instead of having years of split national champions.  I think the 4 team playoff accomplished that goal.
