Again, what's the point of the playoff? To guarantee the NC goes to the best team? Or to ensure the NC goes to the best team while, at the same time, making the tournament compelling, relevant and entertaining for the entire nation.
Every successful playoff system, pro or college, makes access available to a host of teams, only a small number of whom actually have a chance of winning. Cindarellas make tournaments fun for the average, disinterested fan. Do I give a crap who wins between Alabama, LSU, USC, and OU? eff No. Would I watch the first round games between Alabama and TCU, LSU and Boise, USC and K-State? Yes.
I guess the NCAA bball tourny should just pit the #1 and 2 seeds against eachother and put the rest of the teams in the NIT. Really, nobody outside of the top 8 has any real chance of winning the tourny anyway, right?
