I think people are thinking too much into this.  Yes, twelve teams with FSU and ND is the home run of home runs, but I think most people (rightly) in the Big 12 realize that if you have a chance to walk away with FSU, Clemson, ND, and someone from the GT/Pitt/VT/Miami pool, you take it and run.

Texas is going to try and slow play this, but I don't think the rest of the conference is going to let them do it.  By hitting the ACC hard, the Big East will get hit hard, and Notre Dame is looking for some place to drop non-revenue sports.  If the Big 12 strikes hard and gets good schools, and they continue to explore this relationship with the SEC, it's going to be pretty clear that we're going to be rolling in so much cash it will be embarrassing.

And there's only one conference out there that will let you have your own conference network.  Imagine what Notre Dame would make with our "potential" deals and their own network?

It would be absurd.

Schools are guaranteed only 1 football game (home game) to be aired by their own network, correct? And all other sports, all home games not picked up by ESPN/ABC and Fox. Hardly a chance that ND football games would not be selected for ABC/ESPN or FOX, right? Is that 1 football game enough of a tipping point?

Or am I missing something else?

Texas gets two games.  They may get three games this year.

It's more than one football game.  It's basketball games.  It's women's sports.  It's Olympic sports.

Notre Dame is a national university.  Poll most Americans, and a significant number probably have no idea that they're even located in Indiana.

Their Tier 3 rights, in all sports, would be worth as much as the LHN.

Are we making some sort of assumption that they would come in 2013?  Because the earliest you could get them away from existing contracts would most likely be 2015 at the earliest.

Notre Dame is the long range plan.  Realignment is slow.  Change takes time; there's legal and political crap you have to deal with.

The Irish are worth waiting for.

Am I the only one who would say eff-you to FSU & Clemson if it meant we could add ND & Pitt and stop at 12?

-Only 8 conference games
-Division 1: OU, OSU, UT, ISU, KU, KSU
-Division 2: ND, Pitt, WVU, Tech, Baylor, TCU
-Allow only UT & ND to set every year cross rival and do what SEC did for 20 years or set 1 cross rival for everyone
-Setup basketball with 16 game conf. schedule with 4 pods (first 3 & last 3 in divisions above) which every team plays each other 4 times over 3 years
-Play everyone in your pod home-home every year, rotate other pod to do home-home with on 3 year rotation cycle
-Everyone is happy, no real reason for UT and ND to push for more expansion
-If you wanted you could swap ISU, KU, KSU for Tech, Baylor, TCU for North/South again (although I though ND would fight like hell against having KU, KSU, ISU in their division over 3 Texas schools).

I would rather have FSU than Notre Dame. At least I can remember a time when FSU was relevant.

That would weaken the ACC enough that FSU, Miami, Clemson would join the Big12 with no invites from the BigTen or SEC.

Here's the thing...we can take two now and leave Pitt/GT/VT in the ACC for however long we want to keep them there.  VT, GT, and Maryland will never sign a grant of rights because they'll all be looking for the SEC/Big Ten/Big 12 to come after them when the time is right.

Depending on how the playoff thing shakes out, ND isn't going to want to wait until 2016 to join a conference (should that be a pre-req).  If we have to get creative with their NBC contract in 2014 or 2015, whatever.  Or if we have to make 13 work with Pitt for a few years while ND is a partial member, whatever.
