The WVU Dude (or perhaps the Baylor247 guy, I can't remember) said Dodds is willing to go all the way to 16 to get notre dame. Dodds wants ND so bad. i get the feeling that the Big XII is working in two directions - they're letting Texas lust after Notre Dame, while the rest of the conference can freely go after who they want. I think we get GT and Pitt to try and lure in ND simply as the conference's concession to Texas' plans for ND. The conference realizes the benefits of grabbing ND as a real-deal football member outweigh every other option on the table.

Dodds would do just about anything short of killing the LHN for ND.

Do not want 16.  It won't take long for the conference to collapse, ala the WAC, and 8-10 teams break off to do their own thing.  That's why Dodds has no problem going to 16 with ND, because he knows down the road they will be in a 8-10 team conference with ND.

I agree, it will be better...for about 6 years until the right mix of UPs get to drinking together at the hotel bar at a conference meeting and realize that they could make more money together without KU, KSU, Baylor, Iowa State, WVU, ect...

Texas wants Georgia Tech, clemson is on the edge. The idea is to take GT to try and entice Notre Dame. Big XII might be looking at 14.

These WVU cats have endeared me to them rather quickly. They are turning into awesome conference mates

They're also perfect because they can lead these talks with Oliver Luck, who is an extremely qualified person to do so (and very respected as well).

that argument (WVU can talk openly because they aren't officially members yet) would get destroyed so hard in court though.  I'm pretty sure the Big12 is smart enough to know that.

Meh, I think once everyone starts seeing the numbers from a 4-team playoff, 8 is going to follow pretty quickly. Once it gets to eight, no-name programs on the schedule for free become very valuable to teams in the playoff hunt.

I don't think anyone is talking openly, but this is just a 'more gray' back channel to work with a guy more capable of working it than anyone we currently have.

Luck was a finalist for B12 commish.  He's up for the Stanford gig.  He's kind of a big deal.

Dax - Maybe, but that's a further evolution of the process that may not happen if we all start getting together on TV networks.

06 - We'll eventually go to 8.  I presume that will be after everyone realizes it wasn't worth it to keep the stupid Rose Bowl, and the first round goes to on-campus games.

Even so...you have to admit that what the ACC stands to lose over time, and what they could gain from a lawsuit aren't equal....Exponential losses vs. a settlement?

Other conferences, including the Big 12 and ACC have been whispering into Notre Dame's ear that the Irish have other options. DeLoss Dodds at Texas has been wooing the Irish non-stop for three years, even proposing the Irish remain independent in football and bring their non-football sports to the BIg 12 and start their own third-tier network.
