KState probably wouldn't have lost a single game over that timespan playing in the ACC.

Yeah, especially 1987, 1988, and 1989.  We would have torn the ACC a new bad person.   :D

The only time its even debatable that  FSU was better than Florida in football was when Zook was there.  Even then Zook beat Bowden they year Zook was fired.

Zook was HC at Florida from 2002 to 2004.  I would argue Florida State was the better program most of the time from 1987 to 2000 when they finished in the top 5 every single year.  Especially when they played for the NC in 1998, won it in 1999, and played in it again in 2000.  Was Florida finishing top 5 all 14 of these years?

1987    11–1    2nd    Won Fiesta
1988    11–1    3rd    Won Sugar
1989    10–2    3rd    Won Fiesta
1990    10–2    4th    Won Blockbuster
1991    11–2    4th    Won Cotton
1992    11–1    2nd    ACC champions    Won Orange
1993    12–1    1st    ACC champions, National champions    Won Orange
1994    10–1–1  4th ACC champions    Won Sugar
1995    10–2    4th    ACC co-champions    Won Orange
1996    11–1    3rd    ACC champions    Lost Sugar
1997    11–1    3rd    ACC champions    Won Sugar
1998    11–2    3rd    ACC co-champions    Lost Fiesta
1999    12–0    1st    ACC champions, National champions    Won Sugar
2000    11–2    5th    ACC champions    Lost Orange

1987? ok grandpa. todays college freshman was negative seven years old at that time.

I simply chose that time frame because FSU considers it their "Dynasty Years".  I wasn't paying attention to college football in 1987, and the discussion had nothing to do with college football recruits.

The problem is that FSU has had recent success.  Unlike aTm...who derive their sense of self from God knows where...

OK, well here is Florida's record each year during that time frame:

1987    SEC    6    6
1988    SEC    7    5
1989    SEC    7    5
1990    SEC    9    2
1991    SEC    10    2
1992    SEC    9    4
1993    SEC    11    2
1994    SEC    10    2
1995    SEC    12    1
1996    SEC    12    1
1997    SEC    10    2
1998    SEC    10    2
1999    SEC    9    4
2000    SEC    10    3

And here is the head-to-head record.  FSU won 11.  Florida won 4.  One tie.  (16 games played because of two bowl games against each other.)  But you don't think it's even debatable that FSU was ever better than Florida other than when Zook was there?

agreed.  as stated before, with the b12's help, FSU should be able to balance their books and compete for bowl eligibility every other year or so.

the b12 is so generous it's sick.  should start printing our own food stamps to give to FSU'ers.

Its fun to kick you feet up and look back throught he whole thing...September last year was a dark dark time for a cat fan.

Is there any way a 20 team Big East basketball conference could split into two allied 10-team "mini-conferences" rather than divisions, allowing for 2 automatic bids into the Big Dance?

The Big 10 is the countries leader in research, every team in the Big 10 is AAU accredited. Sure, it's about football money but it's also about the grants and billions in research monies that  brings as well.
Nu is a big research university and the prestige (academically) associated with the Big 10 would be great. Only the SEC is lower than the Big 12 academically. Nu would do just fine football wise in the Big 10. Posters here are right by saying that the path to championships would be easier in the Big 12.....But who want's the easy road :gocho:

yeah, about that.....
Yeah.  We need Mizzou, bro.

So.  Even if aTm stays for now, does Beebe finally start being proactive and targeting other people?

who would accept an invite? I mean seriously.

so why is Air Force so great? sorry if obvious

Academics. Dedicated global fan base and decent athletics. Plus they give us a market back into Colorado and better recruiting access to Colorado.

Wow, I leave for two days and I see that A&M is going, then they're not going, then they may be withdrawing and then going?

 :dubious:

***EDITED TO REMOVE LONG PAN POST THAT MAKES ALOT OF SENSE FOR TIME***

At some point, if this comes to fruition, there will be a refugee super-conference, and most likely, no one league will be doing the driving of it since the rest got raided.  The price to join that conference will simply be how seriously you take football, and we take it seriously enough that we'll get a seat at that table.  We've got a 50+K seat stadium that we fill, a moderately successful history in the past 20 years, and we're a package deal with KU, so the odds of us getting swept up in that arrangement are pretty high.

Basically, I envision us falling into some sort of strange refugee conference with schools that are above mid-major in terms of stadium size, success, money invested in football, etc.  We can get into that conference.

Wow this makes me a sad, but realistic Panda. :bait:

CC TO THE RESCUE!!!
Ubben:

Quote
Dan Beebe told USA Today's Steve Wieberg that the Big 12 is not in a holding pattern, and has plans for alternative situations. He adds, however, that the Big 12 is intent on having 10 members.

This means that within a week of A&M leaving, Air Force or Houston will be announced as the tenth member.

Big12 is actively targeting a school, and it's neither of these two.
Memphis could be a prospect IF they actually started investing some real money into their football program.   But as of now, no way.

Houston would be a better prospect of that type of school because Houston has actually won a major conference championship multiple times in the not to distant past, and the only reason they didn't get into the Big 12 was because Baylor had more friends in high places.

Houston is actually well on the way to financing a brand new football stadium.
Just because of where I live, I'd root for MWC. Other than that, BE.

If the "right" schools in the Big East get snubbed by the ACC, Big 10 and SEC...then add ISU, KU, and KSU they could actually hold together as a really shitty BCS conference for a while.

The Big East has come close to losing its BCS status a couple of times, but each time they had 1 or two teams barely hang on to be ranked high enough to keep the status.

Bring on the BE loser/Big 12 loser super conference!

Better than the MW or C-USA. but not by much. Just as long as we keep the AQ I'm fine. We can adjust to lower revenues from TV and ticket sales but make you wonder if ku can. Last I knew they were in the red with a lot of debt about to come due. If they lose any more money they may need an stimulus package.

Best case scenario at this point will probably a Big XII/BE/BYU, Boise State, Air Force mash up. eff this crap.
Clemson and florida state are not joining our league. Good grief.

Oh man the thought of all the Louisville butthurt if Florida St. and Clemson join and we stop at 12.

In summary less than 1 year ago we were hoping to a mash up between BE/MWC/Big12 leftover….Now

Also, since this is for all three tiers, this means that, currently, the Big 12 and the SEC are the only two major conferences that allow schools to retain their own Tier 3 rights.

Posters here are right by saying that the path to championships would be easier in the Big 12.....But who want's the easy road :gocho:

yeah, about that.....

my God BSAC just destroyed HP here.  good memzys.

I've thrown so much crap into this thread that my ranting probably looks like a Jackson Pollock painting.

I would do it all again in a second, though.

Which is clearly equal to Notre Dame's $581 million.

Actually KU is #74
