it will suck if they don't get bowl eligible so the Big 12 can't throw them way down the selection pecking order.  don't see them getting more than 6 wins anyway so it's not like it's possible they'd get snubbed.  maybe we can let ISU get bowl eligible so Mizzou does get snubbed.  :dunno:

Would be great

I think the "they'll get pounded" is a stupid freaking argument against the move. They will not be significantly worse than they were in the B12.

I still think it's kind of a dumb move, just because they won't make significantly more money but they give up an awful lot for travel, cultural fit, turning their back on KC, etc. It's just weird.
disagree with this entirely

first they will never have a 2008 moment again. The problem is that once they go there they will have radically changed the composition of their football team.  They won't be able to rely on the rest of the Nortards collapsing allowing them to face KU in meaningful games.  They wont have the same connection to serious Texas recruiting.  When aTm is already getting hammered with negative recruiting Mizzou will have nothing to offer those recruits they are getting now.  Huge down grade fro them.  Why would a Texan go to Mizzou instead of K-State, KU or hell even ISU when you know they are locked into the SEC east and the Big 12 North is calling you saying they can get you a couple games a year in state.

Now the quality on the field is going to drop.  Where will they turn?  The will not be able to make inroads into Florida.  USF, UCF will eat up any mid range recruits and we already know that FSU, UF, Bama, LSU will have the top tier talent on lock.  Their recruiting grounds will be about as fertile as a west Texas field this summer.

hmm?  there is no Big 12 North anymore.  they have a much easier chance in the SEC East of reproducing 2008 than in the a round robin Big 12.

maybe already posted but rumor was yesterday that air force has backed off the BE because of their fears about it's instability.  can't believe BYU would get involved for the same reasons.

Missouri is going to go become the new Kentucky in football, without the elite basketball program, a smaller overall athletic budget and lesser attendance.

If I was a Mizzou fan, I'd be drinking comically oversized mint juleps and wearing seersuckers at every game. Except instead of mint, I'd use ground up sudafed, I suppose.

Yes, I am rooting for Pinkel to bail/get fired in a couple of years as they struggle to compete at the level they have become accustomed to, the next hire is a just looking for a paycheck type retread and they go back to the football irrelevance they were in during the 80s and early 90s.

Couple the above with KSU offering instate tuition to the KC metro counties and I could see KSU as one of the biggest beneficiaries of this move.

they left because they want to think that they're something more special and more big time than the region they're from.  same as nu and cu.  it's how people from our part of the country think.

probably the most logical explanation I've heard.

yeah.  but it's also contrary to the isolationist streak.  i guess the two (isolationism and wanting to feel more big timey) can coexist.

I think the isolation makes them feel more big timey. NU wouldn't think they were nearly as hot crap in the Big 10 if KU and MU were along for the ride.

Would just end up being 8 SEC teams.   :flush:

Put a maximum number per conference but no minimum.  :dunno:
Also remove all concessions for Notre Dame.

Christ, what a horrible idea.

I don't know.  I do like the thought of teams getting in based on merit.  I mean as a few weeks ago, we may have been included, you know?  We're still not too far outside of the top ten. Through an act of God, we may get to 10-2 with "good" losses.  It's not outside the realm of possibility that in a year like this, we'd be the third B12 team to get into the BCS.

So, when you think about it like that, I'm not really that opposed to it.  Our computer strength will probably usually be pretty high, which may get us two teams in the BCS nearly every year.  That helps get the rest of us better bowls, too.

Anyway, I still need to be convinced by seeing more firm proposals, but it's not the worst idea ever.

The coaches poll is 1/3 of the BCS equation.  The coaches poll starts out like a joke and frequently ends that way.  There is no greater merit than getting a BCS bid because you won your conference championship on the field.  This a ruse to get 3 or 4 SEC teams into the BCS every year.

It also completely robs the other bowl of any relevance whatsoever.  Isn't this the argument they use against a playoff?  It doesn't matter anyway, the Pac 12, Big 10, and the Rose Bowl will have no part of this.

Gonna agree with MIR on this one.  It is definitely a ruse to get in as many SEC teams as possible.

I hate to rain on the jealous of the SEC parade, but KSU goes to a BCS bowl in 98, 99, 00, and 02 in addition to 03 under this system.

Would I be completely stupid for thinking that with the additions of TCU and WVU and loss of MU and Texas A and M. That the Big 12 will receive better strength of schedule numbers and the SEC will see a decrease? I could be looking at this the wrong way, but it seems the Big 12 benefit from this alignment where as the SEC will lose some luster with a declining MU and AandM just being AandM.

Subtraction by addition for SEC and Big 12 staying the same or moving up slightly?

no, the SEC will be playing 9 conference games, so adding aTm and MU replaces a garbage OOC most likely.

It's about a wash for the Big 12.

Good point.

If this format was implemented this year and we win out, Big 12 would get 3 teams this year in...and KSU isn't THAT good this year. I don't know.

Instead of hearing about all how the SEC is the best, I wouldn't mind seeing them get three teams in and play another conferences best three and see how that turns out. At least the rest of the country would have a chance to shut them up on the field as opposed to having the SEC's best team beat some other conferences best team and the whole conference getting its dick sucked.

I'm not saying the SEC wouldn't win all three games they got, but at the same point, it would be nice to have the opportunity to knock em down a peg on the field.

Of course Achilles is going to win 1v1....

I agree and disagree.  In theory yes having to play familiar competition more often with the ability to pack in cupcakes in the front of a schedule does make it easier.  However the SECE is so top heave with UF, USC, UG and arguably Tenn they wouldn't have a chance.  They are talking minimum 5 years to build new connections into completely new geographic regions.  They are competing against two other power conferences (ACC) for good recruits and a plethora of quality programs like USF, UCF which aren't necessarily good, but will block Mizzou's advances to mid level talent and diamonds in the rough, because those types of schools already have the relationships there to get those kids.
