Whether this whole voting thing is true or not, I think SEC really thought they'd get to hand pick a 14th from the ACC. You can kinda feel the regret starting to slowly seep in about going to 13 without something more concrete in place to round out the conference. Sorry SEC, you have to dilute your brand now..pick your poison.
Agree. Plus, with the feeling that the SEC "can do better", I really think that they are going for one of two teams....VaTech or Clemson. This will benefit both conferences (ACC and SEC) because it frees up a slot for the ACC to get UCONN, and it allows the SEC to get an eastern team from the south.
I know they have said that they didn't want a team from a state that they already had a team (S. Carolina), and that Virginia had to pulls some serious string to get VaTech in the ACC in the first place. However, consider that South Carolina hasn't done crap in the SEC since they joined, and are probably way down the pecking order of teams with major clout (Florida, Alabama, Tennessee can all pull rank), they may just tell them to shut the hell up and accept Clemson. Plus, Clemson is a better fit for the SEC than the ACC.
Additionally, wouldn't UVA want to get VaTech out of their conference just so they can stop getting their asses kicked on a yearly basis? UVA hasn't done crap in football in years and hasn't beaten Tech since they joined the ACC. Get that automatic loss of the schedule! Also, VaTech is a better fit for the SEC than the ACC.
