I think one good thing is that WV is not going to the SEC if you believe the reports. Of course that opens the door for MU, but I'm hoping that MU doesn't get invited. If that's the case, having WV in our new whatever league will only help. We need all the legit BCS members we can get.

Hoping to have in our new league:

KSU
KU
MU
WVU
ISU
BU
Louisville
South FL
BYU
TCU
Then maybe a Memphis and Cincinatti to get to 12.

Sucks more than what we have now, but better than MWC.

I kind of don't care anymore. If we end up in a BCS-lite conference so be it. Let's just be prepared to pillage everything in our path. I mean TCU and Boise fans are having a blast the past few seasons. Heck, Boise even got in a little trouble with the NCAA which means they are doing something right and having lots of fun.

the momentum is shifting.  more and more of you are warming up to the mwc, our future home, as an acceptable place to be.  this is a step forward for you.

If ND is going ACC then if the Big 10 wants to expand, MU, KU, Rutgers, Uconn are their options, essentially.  With each passing day that OU/UT play their quasi-homsexual dick measuring contest, we are just entrenching ourselves in the Mountain West.

Andy Katz thinks that MWC and C-USA are coing to merge into a Double Super conference and become BCS AQ worth. We need to start looking at the MAC as our only option.

That's 22 teams right now.  If they really want to make an argument for an AQ they'll pick up the left overs and go to 26-28.  They will be 2 conferences that have their champions play each other.  Each conference schedules cross divisional games on Thanksgiving weekend and use that as conference championship weekend.  They'll just swap opponents for 2 of those games to match up division champs.  It works for season ticket sales purposes if you schedule one entire division all home and the other all away.  Conference champs play 1st week of December.  MWC/CUSA will be begging former BCS schools to join.  I don't think they'll get to AQ status, but I think they'll get an automatic at-large rule if the champion is in the top-10.  I also think it's stupid for MWC because all they'd be doing is adding a stumbling block for their schools.  CUSA schools would never stand a chance unless they get back USF/Cincy/Louisville.
I got a guy on the other line about some white walls

Notre Dame preferring ACC seems like a good thing.  They'll most likely hold that spot open as long as they can.  So that keeps the Big Ten at twelve and the ACC at fourteen until further notice.  UConn will just have to wait it out as the most likely ACC #16.

The news filtering out about WVU having their application denied by the SEC (and being far down on the list) could be great news or bad news for us, depending on how you look at it.  It probably means that Missouri is the most realistic addition (UNC and FSU are probably higher on the list, but won't come due to ACC fortification/expansion).  In the short-term, I think that means we're probably stuck with KU, ISU, and Baylor in the Big East merger.  There will be seven schools left out of the Big East (Rutgers, UConn, WVU, Cincy, Louisville, TCU, USF).  To round it out at twelve, we'll most likely elevate Houston or UCF to get into more markets.  If I'm a betting man, I'd go with Houston since we absolutely need Texas presence and this is a Big 12 skewed merger, so the power will most likely reside here.  That gives us twelve teams, several decent markets, and all eleven schools had AQ status, so keeping it probably won't be an issue.  Also, we'll collect a lot of money in exit fees (assuming the Big 12 is still considered an entity at that time).

After that, I think we have stasis until something significant happens.  Two things would probably trigger another round:

1) The BCS changes it's structure - 16 team leagues will probably start lobbying for two automatic BCS bids.  Should this happen, the impetus will most likely be for the leagues to go to sixteen, and the 64 team model probably comes into play.

2) Notre Dame is forced to join a conference or face BCS exclusion - This day is coming.  ND can exist independently if power is dispersed amongst several conferences, but with a consolidation of dollars and power, and a fairly mediocre Notre Dame not drawing the TV money that Washington State will, I think the time will finally come where they join a conference.  We always assumed Big Ten, but I get the ACC if there is still an allowance of third tier rights distribution.  One thing I never really considered was the fact that of all of the BCS conferences, the ACC has the most private institutions as well (4).  It also keeps ND in the thick of it in the Eastern Time Zone, which the ACC now almost totally controls.

Should #1 happen, and I think it's likely, and Mizzou goes to the SEC, I think we're in.  They'll lobby for Kansas, and with Kansas comes Kansas State.  I know most of you don't agree with me on this, but I think this is probably more likely than not.  Even if that weren't the case, I believe the Big Ten will have to start looking to round out, and either KU goes there or we do.  Their options, without looking at a South Florida, TCU, etc. are absolutely minimal.  We'd be one of the two or three most likely targets out there.  Academically, we're higher than most of the BCS schools left on the table, we'll have competitive facilities, and geographically, we'd fit in either the SEC or Big Ten.

So, short term, we go to merger/reject conference.  If the structure shifts, we'll find a home in either the Big Ten or SEC.  In the meantime, we will have to be aggressive and build our portfolio, academically and athletically, to justify those moves.

Sounds like Pitt and SU is not going to happen for 2 years anyway unless a buyout is reached. Plenty of time to let things fall as they may.

They probably REALLY want the Big East to dissolve soon.  Maybe they can convince ACC to pick up Rutgers and UConn and forget about ND.  :dunno:

Its a thought all though I hear that they are lobbying hard for WV to be included. Uconn and Rutgers, IMO, are waiting to see what the Big 10 is going to do.

UConn wants the ACC, and that is the far more likely landing place for them.  Rutgers can probably sit back and know that they will ultimately be snagged up by the BE when the time comes.

Part of the reason I don't care anymore is because I think we end up retaining some "regional stability" regardless of what happens. The "Kansas City" tv market is a trifecta of KSU, KU and MU. For that market (and really the rest of Kansas and the rest of Missouri) to remain stable and attractive to a conference from a revenue standpoint, the three schools really need to be together. The more the schools separate the less stable the KC market becomes, and the less valuable it becomes.

If we all head to a 16 team league, we're going to have a pod system. With KC at least having the potential to host events for that pod. This is big for the three schools. If they all went their separate ways, KC becomes irrelevant when it comes to any conference events and possible any NCAA regional events.

If super conferences don't happen and the three schools help form a new conference minus UT and OU, KC likely becomes the conference HQ and will certainly host conference championships. This is probably the best option to provide long term stability for the three schools, while the being in a pod in a 16 team league provides more cash.

This is why OU and OSU are working together and why the ACC just added two more East Coast teams.

According to K-State's press pack, K-State has more alumni in KC than MU does.

Also, according to my own unnamed media source, K-State's TSL numbers (Time Spent Listening) are better than both ku and mu in Kansas City.

There was a thread a while back where KCSF got owned on KSF.com. I don't remember the poster, but he/she claimed to work in the industry and claimed the same thing about TSL. This is why I'd love to get some Nielson ratings or something tangible to compare how valuable each school is to the Kansas market and the KC market. KU fans love to claim that they dominate each, but I'd like to see some numbers to back that up. I think they are a lot closer than what popular opinion says.

I would be interested in this, too. I don't buy that MU purely "gets you the KC market". It has to be a lot more complicated than what you see on BB's and in the media. I mean, will MU's ratings in KC suffer if they aren't in a conference with KU and KSU? I imagine Nebraska ratings in the area will be way down, (although that might not be a fair comparison). It just can't be simple.

I want to be in a conference with a ton of bad teams. Winning is more fun than being in a good conference.
welcome to #teamMWC, pls go make a video introducing us to our new neighbors.

My colleague in Chicago told me last night that he spoke with the President of Michigan State about conference realignment last summer and she said that TVs and how well the fanbase traveled were big factors.

He is a Michigan guy but asked her about KU (his daughter goes there) and she said they had examined adding KU, KState and Mizzou as a package to get the midwest tv market. She said they examined many factors and realized people in that tv market will care much more about games between those three schools than any of those schools separate playing existing big 10 members and said they has looked at how popular the tv ratings were for those rivalries.

But that was before they added Nebraska.
