How the playoff will work:
Each super conf will have 4 pods.
The winner of each pod will get the invite, 4x4 =16.
Maybe you've explained this because I'm having a hard time keeping up with this thread. Please reconcile UPs and ADs all of a sudden wanting a playoff when they were gung ho the current bowl system like yesterday. They go from not approving a +1 to a 16 team playoff? Four 16 team conferences changes literally nothing as it relates to the current set up and a playoff system. There are like 67 current BCS schools as opposed to the 64 in the model you say they want.
Not sure what you mean. With that above setup it creates a simple pool play with a clear winner and than you get a clear set of teams to be playoff contenders. You would include the most favorable teams to be in a tourney (sorry BSU/TCU) and create a clear system instead of relying on bowl tie ins or politics to set matches.
I believe UPs and ADs want what ever gives them more money. Super conferences clearly provide that.
Yeah its pretty clear you didn't know what I meant. There has always been more money in a playoff, that didn't change last week. There has always been the possibility of having a playoff that excludes BSU/TCU. Certainly you're familiar with the acronyms BCS, AQ, non-AQ? Four sixteen team conferences doesn't change the reasons UPs and ADs give for not having a playoff; time out of class, the tradition and meaning of bowl season. It also doesn't change the real reason we know why ADs and UPs want the current bowl system in place, bowls greasing the palms of ADs with gifts, trips, and cash.
The only difference between what Chingon proposed and what they have rejected for years is about half a dozen schools.
Note sure what you mean because you completely missed the point of the pod play off system which could evolve from super conferences. You keep thinking of this in the old system paradigm which is what UPs and ADs half heartily rejected because of money. Its laughable at best to include academics and campus life when talking about the myth of the student athlete and big time football. The real answer was with the old status quo money didn't change enough to make it worth the headache. Now with schools getting independent channels, super conferences with multi billion dollar TV deals on the horizon it is clear that ADs just want to land in big money conferences. Its an entirely new paradigm to get use to.
I'm trying not to get pissed at your inability to either understand or you just completely making crap up to fit your point. The UPs and ADs have had people telling them for years how much more money there is in a playoff, there have been several studies done saying so. People have been telling CFB for well over 20 years how much money is in a playoff. When March Madness blew up in the 80's people have been screaming for a playoff. The fact that there is more money in a playoff is far from a new development. Money is clearly driving the conference moves, although most making the moves will spew BS about prestige and academic status. However, there is absolutely no evidence that talking point will bleed into a playoff.
Once again the basic structure as it relates to the viability of a playoff wouldn't change. It would go from 6 conferenes and 67 schools to 4 of 64. So you're telling me that excluding three teams from big time college football will convince people that they were wrong from what they believed to be right for 150 years? That makes no since. These people have not thought at all about long term effects of 4 super conferences. There is no way that Swofford, Scott, Slive, and Delaney have sat down and mapped out a playoff. Not only would those four, more so in the case of Delaney and Scott whos conferences have been violently opposed to a playoff, but they would have to get these old dudes who have spent years fighting against a playoff, to agree to one.
A playoff may happen one day but it is absolutely not a motivation to go to super conferences.
