one surprising aspect of all of this is that texas would allow anyone to dictate what they do in the way that ou supposedly is.  maybe they are just taking this to the brink in order to try to call ou's bluff???

I think UT doesn't believe anyone will act before them (see too arrogant).  That is why I believe they were caught off guard with Pitt/Cuse.

I guess in the pac they would be giving in to USC and Stanford and ou and that may be easier to swallow

Alright, think it through...here's what we know right now.

Pitt and Syracuse to the ACC is a done deal.  It's assumed that the ACC wants to stay in the eastern time zone, which means Big East schools only.

A&M is 99.9999% a done deal.

UT/Tech/OU/OSU to Pac is pretty much assumed.

Alright, let's go from there.

ACC will most likely take UConn.  They're interested, they have a non-dumpster fire football program.  They're a Top 5 basketball program.  They help get a stranglehold on the NE market.  Let's go with that.  Then they need one more.  They won't go with USF because they don't need another Florida school.  Rutgers?  Maybe.  But something tells me Rutgers knows that the Big Ten's going to be looking HARD at them when this all goes down.  So, they may slow play.  That leaves Louisville, Cincy, or WVU.  If you're the ACC, and you want to beef up that football profile (that's SERIOUSLY lacking), why not go for the best team in the Big East and keep the Backyard Brawl in your conference?  The ACC freaking loves rivalries like that.

So, I'll go WVU to the ACC.  Just for the sake of argument.

Okay.  So, that happens.  What do you have left?

Big Ten will get Notre Dame.  That leaves three spots.  SEC has three spots.

Here are the nine teams left competing for six spots:

Kansas
Kansas State
Iowa State
Missouri
Baylor
Cincinnati
Louisville
USF
Rutgers

People are really sweating that we'll be one of the three teams left out of that list?

Eliminate USF.  SEC won't take them, Big Ten won't take them, and the ACC won't take them.  Now you're down to eight.  Baylor to the SEC?  Do you think they'd actually vote them in after what they just pulled?  Down to seven.

I like our odds.

Folks around the Big East are STEAMED over Swofford mentioning playing the ACC Tournament in MSG. Just irate.

The day after Dave Gavitt died :nono:

This isn't getting near enough run.

It's just sickening.

WVU is going SEC if anywhere.  Never been reported to ACC that I've seen.

I don't think politically in Florida we could ever see USF join a conference with Miami, UF, FSU

i'm still not convinced this thing is going 16 schools for four conferences.  Is the SEC going to get left out if they say eff it and stay at 14...NO.  If i'm the SEC i say thanks but no thanks to expanding past 14.  Same with the Big 10.

Pan,

You narrowed your list down to 7, with 4 being AAU.  If the SEC scooped up 2 of them (say ku and mu), leaving only 2 for the Big10, do you really think the Big10 go to 16?  Or do they say :FU, we are staying at 14, what are you going to do about it?" to the SEC, Pac, and ACC?

FYI, this is my biggest fear.

Probably.  But now that we assume he Big 12 and Big East blow up, the dynamic changes a little bit.

14 is a pretty tough logistical issue.  Also, what if the BCS comes back and says 16 team conferences get two automatic bids?

We're working on a whole new paradigm here.  Every assumption about the status quo needs to be thrown out the window.

Oh, I thought they've been #14 for some time.  But if Mizzou is really in play, and Delany is going to sit back until Notre Dame comes out of it's hole, well, Mizzou isn't going to wait.  They may have waited and gone to the Big East in some holding pattern, but not now.  They're going to take the first lifeboat, and if the SEC brings them a briefcase full of cash, well, that changes things.

I've always respected hardcore fans of college teams who aren't relevant, and especially of teams who aren't in a relevant conference. Remember TheTastyGreek? What a great guy/fan. It will be great to see if I can live up to the challenge.

What are the realistic options we have left?

Is the Big 12-as-we-know-it destroyed? What super conferences have spots left? Do those conferences even want to go to 16?

It think the best shot people have been throwing around is KU/KSU/MU to SEC.

I mean, if you really think about it, the SEC has, like, really crappy options if they don't move fast.  Really bad.  Cincy/Louisville/Baylor bad.

The ACC locking down has really screwed them.  Hard.
I bet Louisville is making the same joke about us right now

Maybe.  But they share a state with a current member, they're below us on the list of US News rankings (if those things matter, but they probably don't), and they've only been BCS for about five or six years.  They have no ties with anyone or anyone to really lobby for them.

I'd be really surprised if KU/KSU/MU aren't lobbying hard for one another.  I may be alone in that thought, but I think there is a lot of sentiment between the three schools that they don't want to split.

I don't think MU gives two shits about us and I bet they only care about KU from standing to lose money by not playing them. They'd fire off a host of nukes into the state of Kansas if it meant they'd get a Big Ten or SEC invite.
