With the SEC effectively being shut out of the ACC now and their only choice being WV regionally looking east.

Maybe KU, K-State and Mizzou as a package deal look attractive to get them to 16?

Breaking: PAC-12 hammering out details with Tech, OU, OSU and Texas

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Pac-12 appears to be working out the final details of a deal that would bring Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech to the conference, a well-placed source close to the situation told Hookem.com on Sunday morning.

Nothing has been accepted or approved, yet, but the deal would allow the Longhorns to keep the Longhorn Network. Texas would have to add Pac-12 (soon to be 16) content to the LHN programming. The Longhorns would be able to keep all of their revenue from the network. However, if one-sixteenth of the money the Pac-12 receives from third-tier rights ends up being a larger amount, the schools would divide the revenue evenly and everybody would receive the same amount, the source said.

Where's that from?

the big 10 going to 16 (without texas or nd) would mean that the commis. convinced an overwhelming majority of current big 10 schools that they should each make less money, play a less appealing conference schedule and insert culturally different schools into their conference.

Smartest post in this thread.

The idea of super conferences is only partly correct....it's what the crap ones have to do to get a seat at the table.  The big 10 and the SEC don't have to do this.  SEC expanding was about grabing new markets when they were available and made sense.

They day the big 10 expands is the day that UT and/or ND say they'll sign up...not before.

Why am I the only one not panicking?

I'm not panicking, mainly because I'm not convinced OU and UT are gone yet. (Because the Big 12 adding BYU still makes the most sense for everyone involved.)

Not just that, but there are some attractive candidates out there.

I'm not a University President, nor am I a TV marketing guy, but I'd think the current nine plus BYU, Louisville, and TCU would make a nice little conference.

But, what do I know?

Would be great, but I'm pretty convinced the texas's and okies are gone.

If that's the case, then I don't really care what happens.  If this entire ship is going to be driven by utter stupidity, it's only a matter of time before it implodes again.

I don't think the Big 10 makes any moves unless ND decides to move which I would say is very unlikely so they will stay at 12 for now.  The SEC will add at least 1 maybe 3 more.  The ACC will add 2 more.  Unless the Pac wants to be the PAC 20 they are done at 16.  That leaves 3 - 5 spots left.

I'm guessing the ACC takes 2 more Big East teams and then SEC picks between MU and WVU.  That leaves

Loser of MU\WVU contest
KSU
KU
ISU
Baylor
TCU
+6 left over from Big East.

We will have our new Big 12 once the SEC and ACC pick their 3 teams.

My personal feeling, and it's not just because it would benefit us, is that I think the Pac-16 should simply become the Pac-18 and essentially own the entire western half of the US.

Add Texas, Tech, KU, KSU, OU, and OSU.  Put us in the same division as the Arizona schools and Utah or Colorado.  Eight conference games.  Winners play championship game in a rotation between Rose Bowl and Jerrydome.  Or you can have three six team pods.  Who knows?  Who cares?

I mean, hey, why not?  It cuts down on travel, gets them six schools in the Central Time Zone, and Texas has a bigger entourage.

That makes every bit as much sense as what's going on right now.

I also agree with that statement Pan. If this is all really driven by money as it obviously is, then 5 years after these super conferences get going, the big schools are going to start plotting ways to rid themselves of the smaller schools/programs to up their revenues again.

The ship is being driven by fear, stupidity, and a cult of greed and power at the corporate level that financially controls college athletics in this country.

And a conference with a 100 year legacy is about to be killed today as evidence.
