the longer things are silent, the more I think the Big 12 survives.

Although let’s say god does fall asleep at the wheel and we do get in the pac-12, I feel just terrible for CU.  Those beautiful looking, fantastic smelling people deserve better than to have to deal with the stench of Okies and Kansans coming to Boulder.

It will be amazing.

but really, the longer things are silent, the more I think the Big 12 survives.

I dunno.  Nothing about any of this is logical.  At all.  I mean, everyone’s cool with A&M leaving, not thrilled, but everyone is willing to go out get a team or teams to fill out the conference…then OU’s imperial wizard runs his mouth off and even if you say that he’s doing it to posture or get something out of UT, it’s damn near the most absurd way to go about it.  I mean, if you’re a manager of an apt building and you’re concerned about your buildings fire codes or potential fire hazards and you’ve got tenancy available, you don’t start a fire and then see if you can get the building owner to make some fire code changes and then expect people to line up for admittance.  I’m of the belief that they (ou) want to go and are just figuring out a way to do so, that’s why it’s taking so long.  70/30 collapse/stays together.

i am operating under the belief that ou or maybe all of the conference members found out that texas was talking to big 10 about maybe moving there in a couple of years when big12 contracts with espn were up for renegotiation and ou just said jesus f. screw you guys. if you're out there doing this, then we'll just end it now and make sure that we end up okay and not have the rug swept up from under us in a few years and so they then contacted pac and the rest is history. i am under the assumption that ou would love to stay but that they want a stable league and commitment from texas that they aren't going to run off to big 10 with notre dame in two or three years.

What is Pissclams childhood friend Mipp12 saying on the subject?

Mipp12 began the pac conversation last week, i'm sure if something changes within his circle of  trust that he will let us know.

What about conference realignment isn't rough ridin' absurd? Threatening to leave and floating the rumors about them leaving with OSU let UT know they were going to have options, and encouraged the KU's, TT's, and MU's to seriously explore their options. The smaller players taking time to seriously explore options gives them more leverage to stand up to UT than they would have if caught off guard. I mean if you think that you should take what Boren said at face value, run with that, but I still say he wants a stable Big 12.

no doubt, a lot of it is posturing, but there is plenty of uncertainty about the future and plenty of sour feelings out there right now.  after going through all of the effort to deal with this situation for two years and not knowing what might happen down the road (e.g. texas going indy), even smaller players like mu, ku, and kstate may want to jump at a good offer if one comes along.  even if the big 12 survives, it won't be what it used to be.

if they have a serious restructuring w/ huge penalties for leaving and bring in byu, etc then it could be. the penalties would have to be massive though. there has to be something that binds the schools together.

Whatever they come up with would not be any worse than the commitment they would be making to the Pac (see that article about giving media rights to the confy or whatever).

The most effective way would be like the Pac-12 and Big Ten where you sign over your TV rights to the conference for X number of years.

However, that will absolutely never fly here.  Ever.

yet everyone would be willing to do it in the Big 12 or Pac? Does not compute.

the days of nebraska, colorado, and a&m as part of the 12 are gone forever.  makes leaving now easier for everyone.

Still think the Big East survives and won't get torn apart like lots of people are claiming.  Penn State doesn't want Pitt in the Big 10, I just don't see WVU in the SEC or the ACC for that matter.   I don't see the ACC basketball powers all that excited to bring Syracuse in, and the Big 10 has that market captured already with Penn State . . . Penn State brings Penn, NY and Jersey, they don't need Cuse or Rutgers.   I also don't see the ACC all that excited about Louisville or Cinncy and neither of those schools are Big 10 material.

Yeah, I think the ACC will fall apart before the Big East does.

exactly. and that's probably another reason why you won't see texas to the pac.

i honestly think oklahoma and texas both want to stay but texas wants to leave the door as open as possible and that didn't sit well with ou. texas wants to always have options and thinks they should because they are texas and ou is all like, uh no. maybe ou is being the face for the other eight schools. maybe that is being homerish and wishful of me. regardless, ou is either going to force texas to move conferences now, which is something texas wasn't prepared for or make them give a bigger commitment to staying, which is something they don't want.

As I understood it the TV rights were just the rights to your games you had already played in the conference for the next X years, not future games.  I mean, WGAF if the Big 10 wants to broadcast our old games v. Indiana or whatever.  Really meaningless.
