The lawsuit would be filed in Texas, and the damages alleged would be in the Billions (with a B).  No Texas judge would give up jurisdiction without 2 years of appellate court arguments and Texas juries are very genrous in assesing damages.

SEC is damn right in being scared, and ATM simply isn't worth that potential.  SEC would take the risk for UT, not for ATM.

Can Texas universities be sued in Texas?  I thought Mike Leach showed us the answer to this.

Slive and the SEC can.

Looks like this thread is dying down for the night.  Time to get a solid 8 of sack time and wake up ready to bbs my ass off before the 5pm deadline tomorrow.

Goodnight my kings of the Big East, my princes of the Big 12.

I honestly could give a crap about a&m, they are going to be the sec's little bitch. Can't wait to see all the sec's tucks rub out the woody's while watching a&M's yell leaders runnig around in their Good Humor ice cream suits, The thing that bothers me the most about this is they signed on fully knowing about the LHN. Why didn't they just leave last year? why did they wait till after a TV deal was in place? you know, I expected this to come up again maybe 3 or four years down the line but just seems fishy to do it shortly after everything seemed settled for awhile. hostage? well seems like they were a little dishonest when they went around telling the rest of the members that they were committed when they really weren't. eff them little sheet packing bitches.

Yes, but can you imagine what it would be like if they got mushed by the SEC and then came waddling back to the Big 12 (won't happen).  Instant hate-fueled rivalries with all B12 teams, super-increased viewership for football games (= mo' money) and sarcastic chants of SEC ringing loud in opposing stadiums.
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

This is the first that I've actually heard someone that's a legit voice in this mess actually say this:

Quote
*** And if Oklahoma and OSU were to climb aboard in the next few days or weeks, then Scott would take the time to make sure Texas is off the table … and then he’d move on.

How long he’d wait for Texas to decide its future, I have no idea. But eventually the Pac-14 would examine other options for its 15th and 16th teams. (The league has probably done some of that legwork already.)

Without question, Kansas and Kansas State would be given serious consideration — and those schools would know they were receiving serious consideration, thus delaying a possible move to the Big East.

Guessing along with Scott is a risky, risky venture, but I think he thinks the Kansas basketball brand is strong enough to offset the weak football brand … and strong enough to haul KSU along with it.

Then again, it’s possible the conference would stop at 14.

Uh...what?  You literally have to be shitting me.

If we have even a tiny shot at long term stability in the Pac whatever, eff this conference, throw KU in the backseat and drive west.

Big 12 football: Baylor ultimatum could backfire
Posted by berrytramelon September 7, 2011M at 10:10 pm You’ve sort of got to admire little ol’ Baylor. The Baptists have risen up on the football field and no longer are anyone’s punching bag. Now Baylor is fighting back in the boardroom.

Baylor refuses to waive its right to sue the Southeastern Conference, should the SEC admit Texas A&M and put the Big 12 in danger of dissolving. But Baylor also appears to be in the business of alienating OU, and by extension, OSU. Reports out of Waco, Texas, on Wednesday said six schools — Baylor, Missouri, Texas Tech, Iowa State, Kansas State and Kansas — had vowed that they would let A&M leave the Big 12 with a promise of no lawsuit, provided the Sooners re-committed to the conference. By Wednesday night, espn.com was reporting that all eight schools in the conference other than A&M and OU had resolved to issue the same deal. No lawsuit, if the Sooners stayed.

It was a bogus report. Texas Tech denied the original Waco Tribune report, and OSU officials vehemently denied the espn.com report, saying they would never put OU in such a compromising position. The Sooners were supporters of the 10-team Big 12, but after A&M’s stated desire to leave the conference, OU began considering its options.

Some within the league believe the reports stem from Baylor president Kenneth Starr and his last-ditch efforts to save the Big 12 for the Bears, who could be left with no good options if the Big 12 crumbles.

But even should the Big 12 be saved, this time, what has this kind of deal-making wrought?

If A&M is forced to stay in the league, and it continues at 10 teams, what kind of environment would ensue? It would be a pirate ship of a conference. A virtual prison, with every school sleeping with one eye open, because it trusts no one. Do you think OU, much less A&M, wants to be in a league with Baylor after Wednesday?

You talk about planning an exit strategy.

Or let’s say the threat would work — a far-fetched idea; when did anyone ever get ahead in life threatening David Boren? OK, so OU’s back in, with no A&M, and the league needs a 10th team, which everyone agrees would, best-case scenario, be Brigham Young. BYU has been waffling on its interest in the Big 12. Some in Provo believe independence works better for the Cougars.

Now, those BYU skeptics have to grow, don’t they? Does a Big 12 held together by desperation and threats, still with widespread resent of Texas, sound like something anyone would want to join if they don’t have to? Not even the lure of a possible BCS bid would make that palatable to BYU.

Lose BYU and you’ve lost the last school that could pull its weight in television prowess. Then the Big 12 would be back to Air Force or old Southwest Conference leftovers, and that’s the last thing OU wants, and you’ve got a mess far worse than the current anarchy.

It’s possible that Wednesday was the darkest day in Big 12 history, other than the days Nebraska and Colorado left. The league disintegrated into mass chaos.

There have been valid reasons for OU and OSU to remain in the Big 12. Regional rivalries. Long-term associations. Familiarity. But there are fewer reasons today to stay in the Big 12 than there were yesterday. Some have told the Sooners to get away from the Longhorns.

Get away from Texas? How about getting away from Baylor?

Any belief I had (and it wasn't much) that our league isn't run by retards has pretty much died recently.

Just another dumb opinion piece.

There are more good reasons for OU to stay in the Big XII than to run off to the PAC and they don't involve being held hostage by Baylor.

Texas Christian University coach Gary Patterson has been hired as Kansas State's 34th football coach, multiple sources have confirmed to GoPowercat.com.  Patterson replaces Ron Prince, who was fired Wednesday. - Tim Fitzgerald   Nov, 7, 2008

Big 12 football: Baylor ultimatum could backfire

I can't blame Baylor at all for this. They don't want to become another SMU. If anything, I can't believe that Iowa State hasn't come out more with them; Iowa State is the school that looks like its not fighting to save its AQ status. KU, K-State, and Tech all at least seem to have decent fall back plans, so it makes sense for us to be a little more cautious.

Exactly.  Mouthpieces are like stereotypes, they’re convenient timesavers and give generally accurate portrayals.  Example:  Texans are arrogant.
