I don't want a Houston, SMU, Air Force, CO State, KSU, KU, ISU, Baylor, random other garbage commuter school, and MU if they don't go to the SEC no matter what.  Regional rivalry/rivalries can kiss my ass at that point.  That's not the New Big 12, that's the New Conference USA.

totally agree a new rejects filled big 12 would be bad and get us no respect and prob over time we would lose the distinction as a BCS conference.

i would prefer going with the others to the pac whatever but would be very happy with the big big east. anything else (mwc, cusa, reject 12) would be terrible. i wouldnt be surprised if mu does its own thing but i imagine us and ku will end up in the same conference. also if big east thing happens and mu doesnt go i think the big east should ask memphis to join when we join. memphis wants to get to bcs conference and adding another quality basketball school to an already stacked conference would be cool

Baylor could take MU's spot imo, and regionally pair with with tcu.  I think the main problem here is that when ou bails, the big east might be in as much disarray as the big 12.  There might be nowhere left to flee to.

i could see that. if i was going to grab a texas school to rock with tcu i think it would be houston. the school is larger and the houston market is much better then waco. but it might be easier to grab baylor that will be twisting in the wind rather then reach into another conference and pluck houston.

Baylor has a better bball program. In the Big East, bball is king.

no doubt thats why i suggested memphis first but if you have to go for a texas team i would still take houston over baylor. sure they arent as good at basketball but "Houston–Sugar Land–Baytown, which is the sixth-largest metropolitan area in the U.S. of nearly 6 million people" "The Waco Metropolitan Statistical Area consists of McLennan County and has a 2007 estimated population of 224,668." Adding the largest city in texas and one of the largest cities in the US is better then anything baylor can bring to the table

Its a big stretch to say Baylor has a better basketball program anyway. Baylor has a more recent Elite 8 run, but as programs right now they are pretty equal.

Besides, it doesn't matter that basketball in the Big East is king, they are going to want the best football programs they can get to build up football in their conference. If we've learned anything by now, the status of your basketball program means very little in conference posturing.

The houston market is owned by ut and a&m.  However I think I I of h would be slightly better than baylor in adding value on the number of tv sets.

im sure you are right but like you said its about the number of tv sets in the market. to have a presence in a major city like that would only help

Football may mean more in conference posturing, but the Big East will never be as good as the other conferences from a football standpoint. Also, I believe that basketball has been undervalued in all of this, and that Big East basketball could be incredibly lucrative, especially with KU basketball and a Big East Network. Houston adds more television sets, but I see Houston and Baylor basically as being a tie in terms of who we should pick up. Memphis would be better than both, imo. I would like to have Baylor though, just because they are our Big 12 brother.

The Big Big East will get 37 NCAA tournement teams on average.  Half of the first round games are going to be Big Big East rematches.  We will laugh at all other conferences right in their stupid conference faces.

:runaway:  KSU, MU, ISU and KU to add 9 teams from the Missouri Valley.............Western Illinois, Indiana State, South Dakota State, North Dakota State, Northern Iowa, Illinois State, Missouri State and Southern Illinois.  The new conference will be called The Big Valley and hopes to entice Little Joe or Hoss to become the 14th member.

Tie goes to the team physically closer to me.

You're welcome Baylor.

i don't think those that prefer a pac 16 to a big 20east are thinking clearly.  go back to the chalkboard and check your work.

Pac16 will be there in 5 years, where as the Big East might not keep aq after this season.

you aren't thinking clearly, like he said. There aren't any realistic scenarios where the big east loses AQ status in the near future.

you aren't thinking clearly, like he said. There aren't any realistic scenarios where the big east loses AQ status in the near future.

Rusty is right, if the BCS stays at more or less status-quo for standards for AQ conferences. All 6 AQers are guaranteed through '13-'14. In fact, after this year, the non-AQ conferences will be evaluated to see if one more will qualify as an AQ. So, as it stands now, it seems that the BCS is looking to be more inclusive, not less.

If PAC, big 10 and SEC all start heading toward 14-16 team leagues and the Big XII dissolves, it might mean some different considerations for the BCS. BCS AQ conferences would then be reduced to 5. Plus, the BCS will want to fill the 5 BCS bowl games with quality, diverse competition. Therefore, I don't see how Big East could lose AQ status for the forseeable future unless some (more) poaching happens from the ACC, etc.

I guess it's possible if PAC, SEC and big 10 really corner the market on all the major football institutions and are at 16 team leagues, there could be a consideration for 2 automatic qualifiers from these conferences (conference champs, and 2nd best in overall rating). This still leaves 4 slots for the BCS to fill. Typically, I wouldn't think that the Big East would NOT get its conf. champ (or best overall team) in one of these spots anyway, which makes this practically a moot point.

As far as the Big East is concerned, it seems that they are pretty interested in advancing themselves as a football league (see TCU invite). I don't think they have any inferiority issues regarding basketball. 12 teams would at least keep them in the ball park of other conferences in terms of size, and so long as those programs coming in were perceived as at least as good or better than the median among its existing football members, I don't think they'd blink twice.

The only BCS consideration for moving to 12 teams is that under the qualifying criteria, conferences w/ 9 teams or fewer are given a percentage adjustment of 25% with regards to how many teams they place in the BCS Top 25. With 12 or more teams, there is no adjustment (at least right now). Therefore, as I said, if the potential programs coming in were seen as at least median or above to the existing programs, the conference should see that as attractive.

people think the big east is less stable because it will be picked apart when the big 10, sec, and acc decide they need more teams, none of which are us, with d's in h's, unstable.  could be.  wouldn't happen in pac 10.
