Yeah, as to Rusty’s point, I can see the PAC staying small at 8 or so, and hoping Cal, Stan, Utah, Zona or ASU eventually get cold feet and want to come back and play out west.

That’s always been my pipe dream for the Big 8 teams that left us, but the schools mentioned above aren’t in the B10 and SEC, actually thinking better of things makes more sense for them.

I don’t understand all the legal ramifications or GOR stuff that they have going on tho.
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

How great would the Big XII be right now if instead of all the defections, we had kept the original 8 and just added Tech, Utah, BYU and Zona!? Need to get to 14 with a stronger Texas presence? Alright, bring on ASU and TCU.

Cinci just doesn't move the needle for me, and neither does UCF. Morgantown is a blast but it still doesn't make a whole lot of sense having WVU in the same conference as either Arizona school.

And I will never accept the rapists of Waco.

Pipe dream

saw a tweet today about the Arizona football semi loading up to head to Manhattan, and got to thinking about the USC truck and all the long trips they will get to take or Cal/Stanford.

Yeah,.a drive from zona is a ways but like they'd have a trip to Washington which is far, Manhattan ain't too bad.

TS and Ps to the All Coast dudes driving that effing far. If I was them I'd just ask them to invest in chartering that crap for each game

Maybe I'm wrong but wasn't there an offer to merge at one point? This seems terribly expensive

The MWC commissioner didn't want to do it, and she shouldn't. There's much more money for the MWC doing it this way. People are talking about the Dakota and Montana schools joining the MWC, it now costs $5 million to go from FCS to FBS, when it was previously $5000. If the MWC gets that buyout money from the defectors, they could cover the FBS fee for those schools.

They have to keep some space for ACC refugees. Cal and Stanford will come crawling back, and SMU will probably pay their own way.

No shade but there's literally a better chance that I'd become the commissioner of the Pac 12 or ACC before Stanford and Cal go back to the Pac 12 to play with Fresno State. They had the chance to do that once, to keep their conference together and they passed. The pay out for whatever the Pac ends up will be a small fraction of what they're getting from the ACC. Stanford is still the best athletic department in the country, they'd rather play North Carolina on the moon than play Utah State anywhere in the universe. Other than geography, they are actually pretty good fits in the ACC.

Denny Sanford could probably cover that $10 mil with whatever spare change he carries around in his wallet.

Not a lot of detail in the article, sounds like someone if floating a trial ballon of giving them more money in exchange for shorting the GOR and then having them leave in a more orderly fashion. The ACC wins because this would leave the GOR concept intact and the rebels win with more money and a clear way out in a couple years (I assume it would be 2027)

I had seen and heard it will be 2030 at the earliest.  They will still need to pay exit fees, which is not expected to change.

I really thought UNLV would make the move, but here we are.  It's interesting that their AD made a statement about their goal being membership in a P4 conference, yet they're taking themselves off the board until 2032 in exchange for a double-share of the exit fees being paid by Boise and friends.  I guess they find the extra cash more useful than any boost in profile that might come with the Pac-12 name.

ESPN claims Texas State is a candidate for the MWC, but they'll still need another within a few years, because Hawaii doesn't count for the minimum of eight.

The Pac-7, with one year of waiver left, are going to have to reach down to New Mexico State or UTEP, unless they are willing to spread further east for a UTSA or UNT.  Just not a lot of options after this move by the MWC.

This real (cap)?

The recent court settlement in the House vs. NCAA class action lawsuit, which allows student-athletes to share in athletic department revenues alongside their name, image, and likeness, signals a transformative era in college athletics.

This historic settlement will have a monumental impact on college athletics. With final approval of the settlement pending in April 2025, the financial NIL playing field will be leveled by creating a new structure with a uniform spending cap across all Power 4 institutions.

That’s the cap on university distributed NIL.  I think the NCAA will have a tough time enforcing a limit on external NIL.

Is that 20.5 Mil for football or for all sports? Could KU just use 20 mil on mens bball and the rest spread out to everyone else? If it is 20.5 for all sports it will be interesting to see how its allocated between different sports.

It would be interesting to see what kind of financial ninja Massa Seff is behind the scenes.  Not profit and loss stuff, but budget politics, and direction of donor funds.

This is going to be difficult for lots of athletic departments. Putting a $20 fee on football tickets only even raises $6 million.

The revenue resetting every 3 years will be difficult for those below the average, which K-state is. Heck, even 4% each year goes up to almost $25M after 3 seasons.

Per USA Today, in March 2024 KSU was listed as 49th in total revenue (prior to the newest conference realignments and payouts). https://sportsdata.usatoday.com/ncaa/finances
There are currently 68 teams in P4, but they are not broken down that way in the included link. Also, the data doesn't show private schools (notre dame, byu, smu, baylor, tcu, etc.)
