I guess the new Big XII deal is the first conference deal to get Fox Sports into broadcasting men's college BB games (weird, I assumed they were already involved, but apparently not).  Could this be seen as a way to build Fox men's BB viewership?  Gonzaga is definitely a national brand.

Villanova plays football

This issue with Villanova isn’t that they play football. They play football in the CAA. The issue is their other sports and if they could find home side sports like lacrosse & field hockey. I’m guessing the Big East wouldn’t let them stay.

The fine print is that Gonzaga is talking with other conferences as well (Pac 12 and Big East).  I see this as an effort to beat out the Pac 12 in an attempt to kill their mojo.

I think it makes sense if Washington is concerned about having to send its non-revenue sports teams to Orlando every year. Expanding the non-football sports into large divisions reduces travel. We'd probably need to add a few other basketball-only schools plus Washington and Oregon for it to make sense to me.

If they only get a cut of the basketball part of the media deal (20-25%) plus NCAA tourney credits then it might work out if the networks add to just the BB component of the contract. About 6 to 7 million of the media deal is tied to basketball so it would take thatuch from the networks to make it a net positive from a $ standpoint.

It wouldn't be a windfall but with Yorkies desire to make us young and hip this might fit in his overall strategy. Imagine a BiG 12/ACC preseason tourney in NYC with KU/Zags/NC and Duke as the headliners.

Chartering a 1,200 mile flight really only costs a little more than a 400 mile flight. I feel like travel costs are exaggerated at times.
