If big 10 and SEC try to start their own playoff, then the other conferences need to give exclusive media rights to a streaming network.  I’ve said it in this thread earlier, but Amazon could change the TV landscape through some ballsy moves that start with NCAA football.  Forcing people to not need ESPN + or cable when all access comes from a single streaming service is a huge threat to the other networks who have been forcing conference realignment for their benefit.

I don’t think the haves have any reason to share with the have nots. My suspicion is that they will make way more money be keeping it closer to 40 or fewer teams.

I don’t think we should ever underestimate American greed.

I absolutely agree that this is driven by greed, I just think it is more driven by the greed of the networks than the top two conferences. I could be wrong on which option is more valuable but I am 100% sure that they will choose the best option for the networks.

I don’t think I realized how screwed Cal is.  If ND wants in BigTen, Cal is done. I think ND’s partner into the BigTen is Stanford. The BigTen can go 18 with just them or 20 with Oregon/Washington. If Cal tried to join a league with schools in Oklahoma & Texas (especially Baylor) & BYU their faculty night revolt. Plus they still have hundreds of millions in debt on a stadium renovation that they'll be paying off for decades.

i think the big 12 super conference will be fun. it was obviously better 10, 20 years ago, but all things considered, at least we should still be alive.

while it's definitely more fun to play teams we have history with, i was always still excited for wvu and tcu games. maybe because we have some prior history with them (huggins, it's patterson). it will be cool to play colorado again because eff them and their black colorado endzone thing is nostalgic. we'll just have to invent reasons to hate the new teams and lean into the hate.

That's clays anti ESPN spin. All the legit sports business reporters don't think Disney will cut ESPN. You should also ignore those who say that ESPN will get rid of their linear channels. ESPN has also never lost a bid that they actually wanted. They just, last week, beat literally everyone for the F1 rights.

They didn't even have the highest bid, they were around $100 million. There was repeatedly a steamer, likely Apple, near $200 million
