Looks like the Buffs are going to play chicken with the Big 12 on their exit date.  You'd have to think that they may be a bit more motivated to settle this if the Pac-10 Presidents start listening to the pleas to block CU and Utah.

The way I understand it(haven't read the article), this is his last contract year and he is still there because they couldn't afford his buyout prior to this year.  I thought he was currently in his lame duck year with zero discussion of extension.

^^^That's what I thought, too.  Seems like the wanted to fire him, couldn't afford it, and decided to let him have one more season.  Maybe, if he goes out and wins like 10 games they might extend him.  More likely-  he doesn't and he is canned shortly after the season ends, with no buyout needed.

Yes... if I recall there was some sort of weird Ron Princ'ish type of contract extension deal after the '08 season. To me it was incomprehensible because he seemed so very very sucky... but he did have some extremely solid recruiting classes in place and coming in. Of course, most of that fell apart last year.

Schulz: First, we clearly wanted to stay in the Big 12. After that, we clearly wanted to stay in a BCS Conference and be in the central time zone so our fans could drive to games. If we couldn't find a good fit, then we wanted to work with our former Big 12 partners and put together some type of league.
 
What I was disappointed in during all the talks was the aspect of how much school our student-athletes were going to miss because of all the time zones we were potentially going to go through with some of the ideas being thrown out there.
