Still can't believe he was acting this morning like Baylor and Iowa State to Conference USA would be preferable for those schools to staying in a BCS conference with a high payout, even if the future is uncertain.

Looks like we dodged a bullet when the Star hired Kellis instead of Kitchen.

#MWC wants kstate. I would look very hard at that one. It is working to have BCS auto-bid by '12. Others may be sunk. True.

Kitchen wants K-State to go to the Mountain West instead of a reconstituted Big 12, when the MWC paid out $26 million total to its 9 members last year.  In his mind, better to go to a non-BCS league and get $2.8 million than to stay in a BCS league and get ~$15 million.

If this all goes to crap again in a couple of years and the Mountain West is indeed BCS by then, it makes it a lot easier to go there.  In the meantime, we've made 5X the money we'd have made in the Mountain West.

... nothing is different that what I have been telling you all along. The Big 12 was never dead as others were swearing and it appears it is closer than ever to coming out the other side of this storm.

Negotiations are ongoing with the 10 schools to enter a new contract. They have signed confidentiality agreements so there should be no more leaks (explaining why a post was taken down per request). We will update as we know more, but hopefully the next news will an official release from the conference announcing its survival.

PART 2 : UT ready to commit to remodeled Big 12   Reply
Everyone, just got confirmation from another source that a deal is being put together right now that would cause Texas to commit to a remodeled Big 12 (with 10 teams).

According to my sources, Texas A&M is at the table as this deal is being put together. So all 10 schools remaining in the Big 12 are at the table hammering out a deal that would save the conference and could be announced as early as today.

According to another source with knowledge of the Beebe plan, Texas stands to make between $20 million and $25 million from the proposed TV package being presented by commissioner Dan Beebe, as well as UT's own network.

Texas, Texas A&M and Oklahoma would stand to gain the most from the deal because there would be continued to be unequal revenue sharing as part of the deal, sources said.
