I like how they have an exhaust fan venting God knows what obscenities all over their plants (crops?).

Got a farm update from my dad this weekend. He was asking my brother for advice on adding trailer lighting adapter kit to Lil Red (His 2wd  2004 Chevy S-10 farm truck that is a POS) so he can haul a trailer. Not just any trailer tho, a 4 axle livestock trailer he wants to use for his goats.

My brother and I both expressed concern that Lil Red wouldn’t be able to haul that large of a trailer but what do we know. I asked if he has done any research into how much Lil Red can tow or how much a trailer costs and his response was “I see old ones just sitting there when I’m driving around, they cant be too much”.

Back out there today just soaking up nature

Watched a wood pecker hanging on light pole this am.  Red head.  Was getting bugs off roof of garage.  Pretty soon a full sized non red head showed up.  He started feeding it.  Little later a 2nd non red head showed up wanting fed.  Saw one of them catch a bug mid air.

Apparently there was a fire at the Tyson plant in Holcomb.

https://www.drovers.com/article/cattle-markets-hammered-monday-tyson-fire-news

I found this blurb interesting, didn't realize 21% of all feed lot cattle were in KS.

Quote
According to CattleFax, Tyson's Holcomb plant accounts for 6% of total U.S. fed cattle packing capacity, and 23.5% of Kansas fed cattle packing capacity.  CattleFax also noted the growing supply of finished cattle stood at 11.5 million head July 1, which was record large. About 21% of U.S. total cattle on feed are in Kansas.

The s10 probably would struggle to pull a 4 axle trailer just empty. The real fun would be watching it try to stop a 4 axle trailer.

Cattle futures down big the last two days.

Originally built by IBP that plant was largest cattle kill in the world.  Eight thousand head per day.  Interviewed for job there my last year at KState.

Pretty amazing in the time (2-3 hours) I was there to interview they slaughtered what dad raised in a year.

Gotta say, Trump is really rough ridin' over our farmers and our economy, and not just in the short-term. These are structural changes that will take a lot of work to undo.

That’s a stupid number because a lot of farm and ranch operators do have some massive operating LOCs and various notes on land if they’re buying but are generally very asset heavy.

sd dad was telling me about some fellow ranchers that took an absolute bath on feeders after the processing plant burned down. Had them at auction and suddenly there’s nobody to buy them. That would suck.
