Tons of old junk/equipment on our farm. By the barn we have a "Junkyard" type area where its just rows of old vehicles/plows/random metal implements etc.

This week we have cream separators.   Benji every cat rancher should have one these marvels of technology.

My dad sent me this a couple months ago, the cream can is pretty cool.

My understanding is after WWII dad and another guy, maybe Bird City area, used VA money to buy a couple milk cows and sell cream.  Heard this from an old guy last name Hoyt who has boys younger than me.  Said he thought he had a cream can with dad's name on it and told me the story.

a rule for digital farmers in the age of social media is when you kill a rattle snake you post a picture of the rattle on facebook and also include a note indicating how many rattles it had in case your followers can't count.

The key to reducing unnecessary Rattle snake deaths is a strong local barn cat population. More cats = less mice = less rattlesnakes in proximity to humans.

They'll just eat the cats.

also, the rattles are called "buttons" in cowboy talk. may actually be called that but that's for sure what you refer to them as on facebook when posting the pic of the rattle.

the first segment of a baby rattlesnake's rattle is called the button.  all the subsequent segments are called segments.  if the button breaks off, the new terminal segment doesn't get promoted to button, it's still just a segment.

Zero. You run across cow farmers who claim we have them and I always just assume they are idiots or drunk 24/7/365.

Benji

That is a Bobcat with a long tail. Genetic anomaly you can tell by the markings behind the front legs with white and black patterns also the cheek tufts that are visible. Very rare but it does happen. Never caught one like that but have seen others that have been caught before.

Bored and reading through this thread again dreaming of the day i can be a hobby farmer.

Here is a long distance pic of my cousins coyote hunting lodge. Its currently in the "Junkyard" area of our farm on the top of a hill.

He will "call" them into range then blast them and sell their pelt.
