It’s clear to see that there’s an amount of talent on the floor that so far exceeds the dark ages of K-State basketball, and rivals the previous era, that anyone who isn’t already starting their position from wanting to prove that their hatred of oscar Weber is warranted can’t come to a conclusion that they know there is no heading back up for this program under his leadership6.

That doesn't say what he means it to say.  Or does it? :surprised:

To me, the first part of that statement is the worst part. To say that "its clear" that the talent level exceeds Wooly/Asbury is at best extremely debatable and probably just plain wrong.

To say that the talent level exceeds them and yet we are performing worse doesn't buy Weber a whole lot of credibility in my book

Its pretty noble of oscar to jack his whole season to teach these young men some needed life lessons.

No, it would be easier if it was.  It's what that young man needs.

Weber inherited a much better team than Prince did IIRC.

yeah but the trend is the same. do a little better than the previous guy your first year, then worse, then way worse.

actually Prince's last season was about equal to Snyder's last two. At least in wins and losses.

Weber has had a much clearer downward trend than Prince.  Weber just had more success to start with.

Average score in Big XII games in those years:

2004: KSU 30 Opp. 32
2005: KSU 22 Opp. 32
2008: KSU 29 Opp 42

Similar but in 2008 the blowouts were worse.

and he was only 1 top ten win short of matching snyders total for top ten wins in their respective careers in those seasons

I think it all comes down to having an elite attitude. If we are chill with being mediocre and hoping our current situation will get better than we should do exactly what Mike T says. But, if we expect excellence, and define excellence as winning NCAA tournament games, you bet your britches that we shouldn't be happy with oscar's performance. It all comes down to how you define excellence.

My definition: NCAA tournament every year. Sweet 16 or better 75% of the time.

Mike T's definition: Be competitive in BIG XII play. Winning record on the "Play Hard" chart.

The problem is, you can’t narrow the entire focus of a program to one year. If coaches were always treated this way there never would have been a Dean Smith or a Coach K. Both were hung in effigy early in their hall of fame, record setting tenures by fan bases who were unable to take the long view. Now, before you flood the comments section, in no way am I saying that Weber is on the same level of Smith or K, but he certainly isn’t on the level of Ron Prince, either.

We have been to 4 S16's in 35 years... You see a road from <15%ish to >75%? Frank made the S16 during 20% of his seasons in MHK.

Exactly. I don't want to settle for what is easy, I want excellence. If we aren't achieving that high level from our current staff, we need to seek out and pay the person who can take us there.

But, since this is our hobby sport, if we are ok with being mediocre and winning against KU in Bramlage every few years. . .then we should stick with what we've got.

I applaud your commitment to excellence.

Would be interested in a list of programs that have made it to the NCAA and the S16 75% of the time over the past 10 years.
