The admittedly subpar officiating is only part of what we are seeing here. Stepping back from this a bit, I think that for a number of years we have been seeing the "streetification" of the game. The demographics of basketball have evolved tremendously during the last two or three generations and so have the unspoken "rules". The referees are caught up in this too. I am from an older generation and I do not think the change that I see is good for the game, but that doesn't change the fact that the culture of basketball and its rules are evolving. It's a long and bitter discussion, but I'll stop now. It is what it is.
