Not perfect, but really fun. (and even under 60 possessions!)

Team   POSS   PPP   eFG%   TO%   OR%   FTR
Kentucky    57     1.20    57.4%   19.4%   40.0%   42.6%
Notre Dame    57     1.16    50.0%   12.3%   40.6%   23.2%

I think Duke v UK would be a better game.
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

ND should have shot earlier on the possession before. college coaches can't comprehend a 2 for 1.

Agreed. Duke-UK definitely the better contest, although a UK-Louisville matchup would be a week-long media frenzy and create civil war in Kentucky.

like i said earlier, their offense fell apart late in the game.  you could tell what was going to happen when it slowed to a half court game.
i think their players were just spent.  you could see them not moving up the court as fast and their cuts were basically in slow motion.  i think the best thing they could have done was to force the transition game and make it as ugly as they could but they didn't have it in them.  i doubt brey told them too either, he was wanting to limit UK possessions.  UK was going to score in their half court sets every time.

Yeah, there shouldn't be a huge surprise that they wore down. Kentucky's depth and better players just took over. Notre Dame's defense the last 12 minutes was non-existent.

Yeah but they literally did nothing for like 20 seconds on their next-to-last possession. They could have gotten their shot blocked 15 seconds earlier and been able to have at least 15 seconds on their last possession. Fatigue had nothing to do with it.

I agree that Brey not trying to get a 2 for 1 was dumb. Fatigue had something to do with poor play down the stretch, bit not on that decision or possession.

you can't say fatigue had nothing to do with it.  you think the first possession of the game would have looked similar?  we all know it wouldn't have.

It had nothing to do with not attempting a 2 for 1. Kentucky we getting one full possession no matter what.

I don't think Notre Dame would have won if they'd shot earlier, but it was still dumb not to try.

I don't understand why they don't see the value in this.  The "quick" shot is usually a decent look at a 3.

"Usually" has no value in this case where they're playing the best defense in college basketball. I'm stunned that no one is speaking up for Brey's decision here. Points are certainly more important than getting two shots there. It's not like getting a second possession is guaranteed, I'd assume that Kentucky is also a good oboarding team. Doing whatever the best thing is to get points is the right play in a tie game with under a minute left, sheesh. They got to that point by valuing possessions it would be amazingly stupid to just chuck it up at that point, ultimate panic move.

MiR i agree and made that point- brey was limiting UK's possessions.  that decision was made and he wasn't coming off of it.  he knew UK was going to score the ball when they got it.
ultimately it comes down to ND being too fatigued to get off a good shot once brey made the call to skip the 2-1.  without some fluke crap, ND couldn't win that game, 2-1 or not.
