Not that I care but, how do you get yourself cornered by a crazy drug addict in the first place?

I hope the south gets over it.

Been over it for a long time actually. Except for the cities.

No you haven't. You will never get over it.

Thanks for the tip.

That is part of the "long story short." I wasn't cornered; I could have easily left the scene without a confrontation. Others couldn't have though and I have a large protective streak.

lol No.

I was drinking coffee and reading a book in front of a coffee shop on the first nice spring day of the year. It was a Sunday and 1 o'clock in the afternoon. A drug addled crazy dude was the last thing in the world I was expecting. But I WAS in Memphis so I was carrying. I lived nearby at the time.

Sorry to fly into the face of your expectations. Where I live now, 11% of the adult population have carry permits and we have an aggressive police force. Unsurprisingly we have minimal crime out here. lol

Before you inquire further, the coffee shop "Highpoint Coffee", now out of business, was approximately equidistant between Rhodes College and the U of Memphis, and was full of young students industrially working on laptops at the time. The funny thing is that none of them were aware of the "drama" occurring outside until the cops showed up. That definitely added to the surreal quality of it.....

It sounds like you provided all the drama.

"Drinking coffee".  Guys, this is part of a cultural miscommunication.   In the racially charged gun-nut south, this means "morning drinking".

Possibly the greatest American Admiral ever, David Farragut, won several decisive victories in the War of Southern Treason, including one in Alabama.

"He is remembered for his order at the Battle of Mobile Bay (which he won), usually paraphrased as "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead" in U.S. Navy tradition"

Damn the Tigers, full speed ahead.

Farragut has a building named after him on the Naval Submarine Base in New London, CT.

This is basically exactly what Auburn is as a school in their rivalry with Alabama, yet kids enroll and fans tune in. Puzzling, right?

DNR any of this thread but if we are going to be honest here, Lee was the biggest badass I have ever read about, and if the North had a general 1/8th as badass as Lee, the war would have been over about 3 years before it was

I have a neighbor across the street who is from SEC country. Was down in his basement the other day and he's got this framed "Sons of the Confederacy" certificate and some genealogy stuff showing his SEC civil war ancestors. Not even kidding. It's like he's proud of it, but understands he's gotta keep it in the basement.

i bet he's just like that weird dad from the movie american beauty

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

Don't know if you were aware but Lincoln offered the job to Lee, but he turned it down and resigned to go home to Virginia. Had he taken it, history would be very very different indeed. Hell, if there was any other president in office than Lincoln, we would have 2 different countries now. Dude was a freaking political genius.

lol

Seriously, do some reading on Lincoln during the war. Very very few people could have pulled that off. If you think Vietnam was an unpopular war, wait til you learn about what Lincoln had to go through.

That's not what he meant.  He meant we wish that the South had won.  apart from the horrible mass killing of black people that the southerns would have continued, our lives in the North would be way better without having to support the south.

Washington would be more like Toronto (clean and well run) and Atlanta would be exactly like Johannesburg (mansions and shanty towns and nothing in between).

I am not the one whose forefathers couldn't help themselves from killing every single black person they could get their hands on.

You need to start with the man in the mirror, bro.
