that's how radiolab is, like they do a show whenever they get around to it

I think Joe Rogan has been mentioned in this thread.  Does anyone actually like him?  Like, I had always thought he was an bad person/prick from his standup, like just a very snarky snide stupid act.  But apparently he has quite the podcast following, and has recently gotten into bowhunting and is now friends with a lot of legitimate people in the sport.  People that I respect are often on his show and go hunting with him and such, and I have to wonder if it's just because of the size of his audience and the potential for him to grow the sport, of if they genuinely like him.  He seems like a hard person to genuinely like.  And honestly, I'm not sure if I like him being some sort of de facto spokesperson for the sport to the mainstream masses.

I recently started listening to Rogan.  Similar to ferris in that about 50%-60% is something I dig.  The good thing about Rogan is he spits out 2-3 a week and all are around 3 hrs, so if you don't like two of them, you still have 3 hours of something decent.

Also, he has a crazy large backlog that is completely free.  He has some really interesting stuff in there.

Maybe he is an acquired taste.  I didn't dig it the first two or three times I tried listening to him.   :dunno:

Other casts I have started are We The People Live and Here We Are.  The latter has shitty sound from time to time, but he gets interesting topics and guests if you like psychology and stuff.

I think your "hard person to like" thing is way off base. He's a very interesting and thoughtful dude imo.

He's also way into the whole "primal man" (for lack of a better term) type stuff that you seem to be interested in too, I would give it a try.

1) He curses too much.  It's not funny.
2) In the one podcast I listened to recently, he said multiple things that were not true as if he were an expert.  I didn't like that.

Did you guys listen to the one with Adam Greentree?

ETA:  Anyway, I realize 1 & 2 aren't really relevant to my original point.  I am just kinda like ehhhhh about him.  And, because of that I'm surprised he has such a big following.  I must be in the minority for not liking him.

Honestly, the hunting ones are ones I don't listen to.

I can understand what your saying, though.  He covers a broad range of topics, and if the other topics don't interest you, I can certainly understand you not digging it.

Guys, I am really worried about what America's Test Kitchen is going to turn into now that Christopher Kimball is no longer there.  He is BITB in cooking media.  Now that he is gone, I just don't know.  If I am stuck with Sporkfull and Splendid Table as my only cooking podcasts, I may end it all.

I have only listened to two maybe, and those were with guests I liked or was interested in.  Both hunting related.  I like the guests, just not him.

It kinda makes me feel better that folks like you guys aren't listening to the hunting ones, because he's still a novice hunter and says some stupid/not true things.

Oh the MMA, ya so like Rogan and Cam Hanes and John Dudley (last two are hunting dudes) are also into MMA and this leading bow manufacturer (Hoyt) is now sponsoring a couple MMA dudes and I don't like where that's going.  I don't need to be sharing the woods with a bunch of people who just left Buffalo Wild Wings.  Just seems like the wrong kind of people to try to attract.

I don't listen to the MMA ones either, but often his guests are into that and the conversation touches on it.  9/10, it is a much less meathead tapout convo that you would expect.

He is actually much more a hippy than a meathead, imo.

8man's list is pretty solid.  I prefer Rusillo and Kanell to Jacoby or Simmons for my sports though.

I was not into S2 of Undisclosed.  Listened to 4 episodes and it just seemed like dissecting a lot of high school drama that is tangentially related to the case at best.  I get that he was convicted on a lot of that nonsense, but spending 45 minutes talking about it doesn't make it any more ridiculous.

Splendid Table is kinda annoying.  I don't like her approach and her sunshiny attitude can gtfo.  Thing is, she is pretty good a flavor stuff.  I hardly ever listen to her and usually ff through her stories.

Agreed on sporkful.  Its much more entertainment with food as a base part of the discussion than it is education about stuff.   That's why ATK really needs to not F up the Kimball transition.  Either that, or Kimball needs to start a podcast with Milk Street Kitchen(which he won't do because he is still an owner of ATK and no doubt won't want to compete with his biz/brand).
