i am not wrapping myself in the lord

i grew up in the church but have drifted away in my adulthood

i don't believe that any religion posses a monopoly on instilling socially advantageous values

i do believe that those who want to speak of the value of living in a christian society should at least consider the teachings of christ when making policy choices

"guys" plural . . .

No where in the "teachings of Christ" does it say that a government should create false or highly suspicious circumstances in order to break its own law . . . and that the government should shield these dealings from its citizens via a ridiculous unaccountable web of third parties, with entities within that web filling their bank accounts via gluttony and greed (2 of the 7 deadly sins for those keeping score at home).

Not gE'ing here. This is an interesting article with a helpful overview of the issues at stake:

https://x.com/Yair_Rosenberg/status/1887168079647359168

"a messianic war against Israel's existence" is not very descriptive of the relative power between Gaza and Israel. It is completely unhinged. The most powerful military on the planet and a nuclear powered military regional power have currently destroyed 70% of the standing structures in Gaza, are currently suggesting that the 2 million people there are "re-settled" and that the US will rebuild the place and then let the "people of the world" re-settle there. Trump has also hinted that he may let Israel annex the West Bank in 4 weeks.

All of this with the ongoing, stated threat that Israel resumes bombing Gaza in the interim.

In the course of this war Israel has also taken more land from Syria and Lebannon.

Considering the many, many statements of intent for Israel to expel Palestinians (now with even more direct US assistance!), it is worth pondering if maybe the reverse of the statement is a better summary of the situation. Israel (and the US) is involved in a messianic war against Palestine's existence.

Don Trump hardlining Iran while openly calling for Iran to come to the table and talk, to give up their nuclear ambitions forever and prosper.

Openly working to wedge the Iranians away from the Russians. (Special note - Trump max pressure 2.0 is not very Putin Puppet like)

At this point, the best I can hope for is that neither myself nor anyone I care about happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time when one or more of these (understandably) angry young men become radicalized and (understandably) decide to retaliate against America.

And for those of you offended by that…think back to how angry you were on 9/12. That amount of destruction and loss of human life doesn’t even crack the top 10 of unspeakable horror that the Palestinians have had to endure over the last 16 months. Who wouldn’t strike back? At this point I don’t see how it could be avoided

my MAGA cousin was on a heater last night in our text thread

explaining that I needed to embrace "our culture" (yikes) and understand the judeo-christian values our nation wsa built upon

also said we needed to stop sending money to "crap hole" countries to help their people

he did not see the hypocrisy
That sounds like a really awful conversation. As a Unitarian, my heart goes out to you, but it does not go out to you in conjunction with the Nazi salute. It’s just a regular my heart goes out to you with like a head nod, maybe a thumb thumbs up.

An Iranian nuclear deal?

Like a Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action?

Without the tarmac cash and the proliferation of Iranian backed terror groups across the Middle East.

Which lead to 18 months of war, which was on the cusp of spreading into a regional war . . . and hopefully without the the continued advancement of the Iranian ballistic missile program which was left virtually untouched by all #blueanon "deals" (probably because the "point man" on Iran was an Iranian spy)

Translation: We only want deals that drop billions in cash on our doorstep, allow us to continue to skirt true oversight of our nuclear ambitions by 3rd parties and allow us to continue to support terrorist groups while we continue to develop our ballistic missile capabilities

To absolutely no one’s surprise, Israel is not honoring the terms of the cease fire and now alleging that it is Hamas who is delaying, and is threatening to reopen the war by Saturday.

https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2025/2/11/did-israel-violate-the-gaza-ceasefire-what-to-know-about-hamass-pause

To me, it looks like Trump is tracking toward entangling us further in this. After all, if we “take ownership” of Gaza, then we’ll be compelled to defend it. No Bueno.

In another one of those “is he really crazy enough to do it” moments, it appears that the Arab world is starting to collaborate on an alternative solution at an increased velocity. Somewhat similar to Europe mobilizing on a Ukrainian solution, I again have to offer a qualified tip of the hat to Trump.

I long for a world where it does not take a serious debate about the mental stability of the American president to motivate these sorts of collaborations. But hey, results matter I guess. :dunno:

Pete, you've got to understand that the #blueanon Big Mad Express absolutely hates all of this talk about peace, and attempting to resolve the Palestine situation once and for all. They much prefer perpetual war across the globe, and for their to be nothing but a series of revolving conflicts in the Middle East. As you can tell, there's absolute crap tons of money that can be made out of that, and they're not going to let their money laundering machine be put out of business without a fight to the death.

What elements that have been discussed make you feel like we might "resolve the Palestine situation once and for all."
