I think she was pretty vicious in the books, too. Jon Snow tamed her with his tongue, but nobody else has been able to tame that beast.

Speaking of The Wheel of Time, what's everyone's opinion on that series? I'm considering making it my summer reading.

The first 6 books were masterful, and if he had wrapped the series in 10 it would have rivaled if not surpassed Tolkien. Unfortunately, Robert Jordan started to go crazy towards the end and the series got horribly bogged down in books 7-11 with way too many uninteresting characters and story lines. Then Robert Jordan died and Sanderson took over. He did a remarkably good job tying up the series with the final 3 books, but it wasn't nearly as good or satisfying as the first 6. Spent too much time wrapping up dumb story lines and rushed through others.

Overall, a good series but it will probably leave you at least somewhat disappointed.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, K-State fans could have beheaded the entire KU team at midcourt, and K-State fans would be celebrating it this morning.  They are the ISIS of Big 12 fanbases.

I watched last night's episode with TownieCat and really had to stifle my laughter following the chamber pot line. The next two episodes are going to be a whirlwind of excitement.

I enjoyed when Tyrion told Oberyn that he should at least wear a helmet. All the episode was missing was that one-armed guy from Arrested Development popping in and saying "and that's why you always wear a helmet."

Oberyn asking about Tyrion's time in the fighting pits made me gasp a little bit too. Weiss and Benioff do some excellent foreshadowing.

I don't remember exactly when their paths cross, so I can't say. I was disappointed in last night's scene. Daeny disassociating herself from Jorah is such a big moment for both characters. The scene just seemed weak.

It's middle/late book 5? So it may be the first episode of Season 6. Season 5 will probably have him asking where do the whores go a million times and almost drowning and going into that camp as a slave or whatever.

Yeah, seems like Tyrion has a bit of a journey before he meets up with Jorah.

His first marriage has been essentially ignored by the show, which is frustrating. That trauma is pretty important for Tyrion's character. I've been wondering how they are going to work that in.

the subreddit is hypothesizing that they're using Grey Worm and Missandei as a a replacement for the Stalwart Shield storyline. I suppose that is possible, but Grey Worm is pretty important. I'd be pissed if they killed him off.

I thought the nights watch burned down everything on the south side of the wall when they were being attacked? Is that later? Also did grenn and pyp both die in the book? I don't remember that

Everything catches fire from arrows during the first raid, you are right. Grenn and Pyp both lived through the attacks in the book. They actually have somewhat important roles in a later event. I suppose they're just going to use Sam to fulfill that.

It should have been the one-armed blacksmith, Donal Noye that died holding the tunnel, but they never cast/ wrote that character in.

Probably that rough ridin' SAG not letting anyone surgically remove an arm for the role, bastards.

Why isn't anyone talking about how sad it was when Ygritte died in Jon Snow's arms?

Because that might have been the worst part of the episode. "Let's throw out all the guidelines we've used to shape the battle so far and have a heartfelt moment!"

Yeah, actually I think the book was more heart wrenching since they didn't even get a goodbye...but it was still sad dammit!

it would have been much more sad had it happened the way it happened in the book

Truth be told, I think I might have cried when I read it in the book but I didn't even cry at all when watching the episode last night.
(I have a low tolerance for heart wrenching moments in books and movies.)

the title of Episode 10 is "The Children". How far ahead are we going here?  :sdeek:
