Can we turn this thread into one about all the carbs we are all consuming, kind of like what those swolecats have done with their keto crap?
Traveling for work today and missed lunch.  But I planned ahead and grabbed an extra slice of mrstdaver's homemade breakfast bread on the way out this morning.  After checking in at HQ this afternoon, I cranked out 8 miles (6:45 pace :gocho:).  Just put down three beers, a huuuge burger, fried pickles, and a cookie.  Should sleep well tonight!

Don't know whether to be more impressed by the carbs in that bread and beer or that 6:45 pace. WTH, man, are you really that fast??

I was pushing myself hard.  Stretch goal is 90 minutes for next half and wanted to get a race pace run in.  But really I was cheating by being 4000 ft lower than home.  Not sure if I could have broke 7 otherwise.

Are you making the argument that the way it is now is the way it shall be forever?

Kind of, yes.

You pick:

1. Not enough carbs consumed in the early parts of the last century, those poor bastards.
2. An elliptical curve so nearly perfect as to be represented by a mathematical equation that can predict its future. (See debate over whether sub-2:00 is possible)
3. Evolution is not the change you were advocating with the whole high fat = long distance argument

Also, let me know when the East Africans start adopting a low carb diet.

Thoughts on mini-tri's?
I'm thinking of signing up for one in May. The only thing is I can't train for the swimming portion. I have no place to do that.
I can bike and run and the swim is only 500 meters anyways. Anybody have any experience with this?
Did one 4 years. Did not realize transitions were timed. It was in McPherson and I loved it. Swim was in a pool and that's the only reason I did it. I'm terrified of lakes

Nice 6 miler last night. Linear trail & NE Community Park.
Longest distance I've gone this year. Felt good. Slow, but good.

Had to pass on the mini-tri for now. Have a wedding out of town the night before.
Still looking for another one to consider.

It's worth and enjoyable. I hope you are able to find one and that you enjoy it.

Despite CBs championing of carbs, I will say I've noticed some improvement in my running since going keto. Pre-keto I could do 6 miles at around maybe an 8:50 pace but at 6 miles I turned into a pumpkin. Since getting my macros right I've found that my "I could do this all day" pace is around 9:05. Yes, I realize 15 seconds/mile slower isn't nothing, but I can routinely run 7+ and haven't stopped a run because I was tired...I either get bored or sometimes some joint pain if I end up running on pavement rather than gravel trail.

Anyway all that to say I think ketones are a plenty potent energy source for something like distance running. Also recovery seems to be pretty much instantaneous with keto.

Not saying CB is full of poop, just sharing my experience, which does not seem to be atypical.

Not saying fats aren't a good fuel source. I love 'em. Avocados, almond butter, bacon. Bring it on.

Glad to hear you're seeing benefits.

I would just say that you can get the same results, or better, by simply running more. And that new runners get their biggest bang for their bucks by doing just that. A whole bunch of slow miles.

I am all for reducing sugar intake, and refined grains, and junk. But oatmeal is good for you and no one will convince me otherwise. :)

Also, I have been getting a ton of miles in lately. My Friday through Wednesday went like this:

10
17
15
Rest
14
10

A week after a trail HM, which was a week after that 50K. Keeping nearly all the miles at a conversational pace.

Sleep has been bonkers.

Hat tip to the big miles. I wish I had the time. I dislike running before 5a.

I ran a marathon a little while ago. Didn't go as fast as I would have liked, but I knew I wouldn't meet my goal time if it was hot outside. It was low 70s and full sun on race day, which was no bueno. May post a full Peggy Po/Nancy Neg breakdown at some point if I have time.

Will probably focus on speeding up my 10k time and settle in for a lot of 10Ks and a few half marathons. Don't really have the time or husband/dad capital to run another marathon for a while (maybe ever).

I'd eventually like to tri (get it???) an Olympic-distance triathlon. Any Cat fans out there who have completed triathlons before?

I've not attempted a tri. I have done several duathlons. I find them to be a ton of fun.

Registered for Kentucky Derby Festival Marathon today. Eighteen weeks to build. Go!
My daughter's boyfriend has decided to run this with me. Little rough rider thinks he's going to beat me. He hasn't ran longer than six miles at a time. It's going to be fun watching him suffer. :)
