Your blurring of the line between willing participant and bystander/victim, although hilarious, is not at all relevant and pretty ridiculous.  The fact that you're attempting to draw comparison between someone who knowingly agreed to be put into a situation where they could be harmed and someone who only agreed to be entertained is incredibly irresponsible. 

Your hypothetical would only have merit if willie tackled the willing participant so hard, that he flew into the crowd and injured innocent bystanders. 

It was an accident, there were no victims; if this event shows anything, it's that future participants should be required to sign a liability waiver with an understanding that they know the risks they are taking. 

Do I care if this willie skit continues?  No.  I sure as crap wouldn't sign up for it and I would strongly discourage anyone from doing so.  I will however, watch and be entertained at people willing to sacrifice their bodies for the purpose of entertainment/competition.

No one is advocating for the removal of all skits, just one that doesn't require someone to be maimed. Who rough ridin' cares if he volunteered to get hit, you think it is a good idea for the university to allow that massive liability risk to continue? There are lots of stupid things people would volunteer to do that wouldn't be a good idea for the school to showcase at midfield of a football game.

Everyone is aware that the individual getting hit at midfield is another willie, right? from what I understand none of them enjoy being put in that position.

I would like to see this specific skit replaced by something more clever, that doesn't have such a high potential for injury for an unprotected KSU Qatz student.

Nobody was outraged and demanding that the skits to cease immediately before the kid had a seizure. It's all being blown up because it's recent and fresh in people's minds.

What are you guys doing at a football game if you get all emotional while watching an 18-21 year old kids putting themselves in position to potentially lay on a field dying in front of 50,000 people?  It's a contact sport - people die.  You might see it sometime and it will be tragic, but it the natural consequence of playing contact sports and subsequently watching them.

The athletic department, as in people employed by K-State, sit with the Willies and some interns to come up with the skits.  The skit inevitably ends with an unpaid intern getting hit hard once a week for every home game.  One of these interns has a seizure and has to go to the hospital.

Its not about what the interns want to do, its about a ridiculous amount of liability the university undertakes for the joy of watching the other teams mascot get tackled.  Its not worth it and should stop.  I don't care what waiver anybody signs, given the above facts, KSU could get their ass sued off and wouldn't stand a chance.

We do all kinds of things, from rule changes to improvements in padding technology, to reduce the threat of death on the football field by football players. Likewise, we should make an effort to prevent deaths on the field by the pep and cheer squad. If that means no more spearing other pep members head first into the turf before the game starts, so be it.
