- the only thing worse than kc neighborhood talk is weirdo mhk/ict folks bitching about kc neighborhood talk.

no trust me it isn't. you idiots are insufferable and talk about it constantly. def runner up for me though is the weird and slightly uppity mhk mom/dad that thinks there is an actual difference between the level of education their kid will receive at one of the local grade schools.

"yeah, we moved to so and so street so our kid could go to amanda arnold instead of lee".

i mean that is very lol as well. but there aren't as many of them and they aren't all over message boards endlessly debating the various merits of marlatt vs northview like the kc people do about the olathe and shawnee mission highschools, so it doesn't bother me as much.

fwiw, I have never debated KC schools on this blog. and I'm moving to Dallas where they don't even have neighborhoods. it's just one big suburb. so don't lump me in with these neighborhood weirdos, rd.

neighbor doesn't pay for lawn service = wife gon get raped

Get a load of Captain Gentrification over here.  Maybe not causal, but certainly correlated.  You wouldn't know a damn thing about it out there in your ivory tower, perfect sunshine ocean bay, whitey festival existence.  So rough ridin' affluent I'd like to puke.

Seriously.  Bread calls it.

hey bread, I am going to build a chicken coop in my backyard this weekend using only artisnal hand tools from the early 19th century and constructed entirely out of reclaimed wood, can you come over to help?  It is going to look like a pile of moldy driftwood.  Should be great.  I'd say we should wrap up before 6:30 though due to the possibility of drifter attacks after dusk.

Only if I can bring a twelver of PBR tall boys.  I might need to pick up a pack of American Spirits, dunno.  You know I can't get down on some serious elitist crafting unless I have the appropriate all-natural cig.

Pick up a couple sixers of Drake's or stay in Peoria, hick.

Pffft.  Maybe if I wanted to be a poser.  Probably a great beer to settle on in and gentrify a neighborhood with.  Not the kind of genuinely organic to the his nature project LSOC is about to bang out.  I drink what my brain naturally tells me to, not what I saw some skinny jeans neck beard toting around at the Vampire Weekend concert.  If it just so happens to be "in" for some random subset of American culture, so be it.  That's their hang up, not mine.
My prescience is fully engorged.  It throbs with righteous accuracy.  I am sated.

You are basically moving to LA, so I wouldn't worry about it either.  I'd just enjoy the ride and keep my eyes peeled for celebs.

Here is the list of considerations that go in to making sure my son goes to the best high school in the state of Kansas.

Consideration: live in Manhattan, KS.

you live in marlatt elementary school area though.  :ohno:  :runaway:

I went to marlatt, and my best friend there was a non-white... Might want to move KK.    :ohno:

Schools matter if your child has special needs.  So, if you're being a d-bag about a school to be a d-bag, then yeah, STFU, but if your kid has a legitimate need and you don't want to pay $15k a year to send them to private school, you're going to be picky about what school district you're in.

And, I know michigan was discussing me when talking about the bushes.  I said that's not why we were moving.  I said it would hurt us when we sell, and it will.  You're always going to have people in their neighborhoods who don't give a damn about maintaining their property unless you live in a neighborhood with a militant HOA.  That's not what most of us are looking for.  However, a nice neighborhood with other kids to play with, people who give a crap about their property, and neighbors that will share a beer with you in your driveway are things that some people care about.

The differences between SMS and SME do not require private schools to come into the equation.

RE: SMS/SME - I don't care about any of that.  My wife and I are looking at two school districts in KC because they can handle our oldest son's needs, and SM isn't one of them.  Outside of that, I don't care what elementary, middle, or HS they go to as long as the entire district treats him the same from one school to the other.

RE: Where we live - At the time we looked for homes, we had no children, and I traveled a lot, so I wanted to be close to work and the airport.  As we started having kids, circumstances dictated that we look elsewhere.  Also, when we were looking for homes at that time, our income was substantially less, and now we can afford much more, so we can now get into a home that fits our needs and sits in a desired location.

I know that you don't know me or my situation, so I'm not offended.  However, these choices are not as simple as you make them out to be, and it's not as convenient as painting some of us as uncultured rubes that are scared of poor people.

one of the points of this thread is that Joco, specifically the burbs inside 435, was almost entirely that place after WWII and pretty much stayed that way until the new housing construction boom took off in the 90s and things began to change.  The lol worthy posts about that difference in SM schools are right on point.  Do you want to live next door to Mr. & Mrs. Greek week, their 2 kids and weinheimer or Kari single mom, her 2 kids and rot?
