If you live near campus, Manhattan is actually pretty easy to get by with just a bike. Or at least it was when I was a student.

I would drop off my significant other for work and then have the car all day.

She's not necessarily wrong on the differences, just an idiot since 90% could've been mitigated with the slightest planning.

I think living in a place where you can't assume everyone's political leanings just by meeting them is a plus.

I do feel bad she isn't happy. It's not fun to live in a place you don't like.

Happy you have that luxury

Maybe I'm just silly but I'd much rather live in a place where it's less likely that someone is going to blow my face off with a gun that has a swastika drawn on it than not. I've made a conscious choice to move my family to a relatively safe space.

Hate to pile on but she's probably gonna need a second car in westchester (unless one of them can walk to a commuter train, but that would be a choice like living closer to campus in MHK). just about any suburb will be as bad or worse than Manhattan

Did it say they're moving to Westchester? I'd think she'd want to be in Manhattan or Brooklyn. She's going to get real cozy with that metro north. I wonder where the insider offices are.

You are correct but she thought Westchester might be a good fit down the road. This just seems like such an interesting couple dynamic.  "I followed you for two years, so I get to pick where we live for the next two years regardless of how you feel about it."

Quote
My husband always says, "you complain about Kansas too much," and it's probably true. There are some things I do like about it, but after my husband graduates, I get to pick where we live for two years — and we're moving back to a city, probably New York City.

I think my husband and I are still trying to find the balance of what works for both of us.

I am 100% a city kid and when we think about our move to New York, I'm like "Let's live in Manhattan in that tiny shoebox apartment, where we'll be close to everything." But he's someone who likes the city but would love to have more space. He's like "Let's live in Westchester."

Most people could accurately guess someone's politics just by seeing what vehicle they drive, their job, and their house. Come on.

Didn't expect a response and I'm not sure one is needed. I just felt the need to offer another perspective. There's no need to respond or even feel bad that you don't have to consider such things.

do you think race/racism is disconnected from political affiliation?
