I think the scariest thing, if I'm a KU fan, is that at this point, they have an alarmingly low amount of commitments (that we know about), especially from high schools considering how upperclassman heavy they're going to be.
This is a myth perpetuated by tucks like yourself.
Welp, numbers don't lie. Current commitments by school:
25 (OSU)
23 (UT, Tech, BU)
20 (ISU)
18 (OU, KSU, WVU)
13 (TCU)
11 (KU)
I'm sure KU will fill out their scholarships but, at this time, the number of commits is pretty low.
The bulk of talent left at this point is in the JUCO ranks (which does nothing to help KU at this point and further going back to that well will leave an even bigger hole for the next guy) and really strong prep talent. KU doesn't seem to be really in on either.
Beems (and other KU fans) need to brace themselves. Charlie, Year 4, is going to be a nightmare. New guy in year 5 is going to have absolutely nothing to work with.
KU "may" have a team that flirts with 5-6 wins next year if the ball bounces right. They'll lose at Duke, but they'll probably get two at home in the non-con vs. CMU and the FCS team. They've got road games @ Tech, @ KSU, @ Baylor, @ West Virginia, and @ Oklahoma. It's a 4/5 year for them. That means they'll most likely need to win the following games at home to get bowl eligible: Texas (15% chance), OSU (5% chance), Iowa State (50+% chance), TCU (40% chance).
And that's going to be the high point in Charlie's tenure.
All I'm saying is that if KU really committed to building the program through recruiting and prep talent, things wouldn't look so bad circa 2016-2018. But this long winter is just going to continue for them because of these last two recruiting classes.
