That’s smart as eff.

Realistically, they should just permanently play in KC. Fast forward 10 years and they will be more popular than ksu or MU.

they’re playing in kansas city at a significant loss.  they can’t afford to sustain the cost of renting arrowhead or children’s mercy.

Typical KU, always losing money except BB.

I was hanging out with my sister last night, proud KU grad and LFK resident who also works for the state. I started asking her about the KU football stadium remodel and taxpayer funds for the "hotel/whatever" that is eventually going to be connected to it. According to her the restaurant inside the hotel/convention space whatever they claimed to get tax payer dollars/etc......

Well it's going to be an Olive Garden

She DGAF about ku football but was really disappointed that it was a freaking olive garden slated to go into the hotel portion.

Quote as best I can recall "We have so many great local LFK restaurants and they are going to put an olive garden in there to show all the visitors what LFK is about?!? WTF?"

You're gE'ing, right? I hope to god this rumor is true. Imagine saddling up to the bar and housing some bottomless salad and breadsticks with 42,000 other people who, when there, are #FAMILY.

For a school known for waving the wheat, a bread/pasta restaurant seems like a good fit.

I was going to suggest a third Applebee's but apparently both of them closed! From a reddit thread on the subject.

Not for the kind of food I want, aint' no good places to get even vaguely decent chicken alfredo anymore that isn't downtown and getting a parking spot downtown is a right bitch. We lost paisanos, we lost applebees, the inbred hicks who loved paisanos chased olive garden out before it could even set up shop.

There ain't no italian anywhere.

Surprised it’s not a brewery. Miller Lite or Bud Light would do great there.

lol @ chicken Alfredo and no doubt they are in a food desert of mediocrity, but I’m pretty sure The Basil Leaf Cafe is still open, and it’s legit good IMO. If no one in that Reddit thread mentioned them, then that’s a partial indicator of why they don’t deserve nice things.

I think Basil Leaf is still around but not in the gas station/incubator space. Not sure if others are gE-ing but as a Manhattanite I am legit envious of the Lawrence restaurant scene. Manhattan's got Lawrence beat in a lot of areas but restaurants ain't one of 'em.

Basil Leaf is a great Italian spot and I highly recommend their house vodka, house gin, house rum, and almost all of their "by the bottle" wines.

Bruh, Manhattan got their first olive garden back in like 2010....Meanwhile LFK just MIGHT get an olive garden 15 years later.

I always thought Genovese was really good when I lived there.  Might be outside the normal KU grads income level though.

Lawrence has some surprisingly good eats but you have to stay downtown. Can't recall the names but there's a good Italian place at the old Round Corner Drug Store  at 8th and Mass and another in the 700 block of Mass on the east side. John brown's in good on 7th street across from the old post office/LJW office where I used to work. Terrabone has great Cajun in the 800 side of Mass west side. Zen Zero is good for a wide variety of Asian noodle dishes, also west side 800 block of Mass. North Lawrence Sushi place just over the bridge and to the right going north by the levee I'd recommend. Burger Stand has best burgers downtown in 800 block of Mass (stay away from Jefferson's). The Mad Greek has a great buffet on Sunday.

olathe has expanded so far west that they’re essentially sharing a border and it won’t be long until o-town annexes lawrence
