not sure why some of you guys are surprised by the hire unless you're saying one thing and believing the other.  ku football hc job is the worst in all of p5 football. their facilities are terrible.   they weren't going to get anyone with a pulse.

i don't think it's a bad hire.   it's risky but that's the situation they're in.  and there really is no downside.
the guy knows texas HS recruiting and that's all that really matters.  hire an OC who knows his stuff and move forward, no way Bowen leaves KU, he'll be the DC.

I can't imagine bringing in an assistant for over 500k when you pay your coach 800k.  At that point, whatever money you offer can't be much more than they are making or could get in a raise where they are.  Why the hell would a good known quantity assistant come to Kansas if not for money?

Beatty may not be terrible, but unless he knows great guys due for promotions, his staff will be.

Good point.

Nobody is hiring a guy who regularly had 50ish ranked defenses as their DC. Of course not many would hire an OC who had 90ish ranked offenses as their head coach.

Seems like a decent hire. Like if I worked for Ku athletics and somebody was like "hey should we hire this guy?" I would have been like, "ya prob".
