I assume by paying Beatty that low they can give Bowen more money to entice him to stay. They also worked on the same KU staff in 08 and 09.

I don't think it's a bad hire, just a WTF hire. I don't get how you skip Bowen for a WRs coach.

This apparent shitstorm (I'll have to take your word for it, I only have the evidence in this thread) is baffling. We already knew Beaty was on the shortlist of candidates, and I don't recall much anti-Beaty sentiment before today.

Bowen you could reasonably assume based on data available, would be better than Weis/Gill but probably have a ceiling of 7 wins. I would not have hired Bowen. It would've been based purely on sentimental emotion.

Beaty reportedly really wanted the Texas WR job in 2011 when Mack broke up his staff. Really emerged as a star since then.
