@stevesie60

Orgeron hasn't coached at KU yet, so he has that going for him.

Word is, GC and Malzahn were ready to leave Auburn for Oread but Perkins somehow blew it. Put them on call waiting for over an hour, apparently. Gus and Harbaugh would have been co-offensive coordinators.

Absolutely. He can surely land at a much better place.
One guy wants Ruffin Mcneil.  He'd be a homerun hire, imo, but he'd be a fool to leave ECU for KU right now.
He already is at a better place.  He has ECU's stadium full and the pirates rolling.  He'd be a fool to make what is a lateral move (at best) and have to rebuild another crap show to get back to where he essentially is right now.

Oh that'd be good for them, I wouldn't be afraid of him but that would still be a good hire
Yeah, I was skeptical when ECU hired him initially (who would want Mike Leach's DEFENSIVE coordinator?!) but he's done very well.

Haven't read the last five pages so maybe luked but ECU is Ruffin McNeil's alma mater. Just a fwiw.

My inside source's comments Post Rating (2 votes)
As some may recall, I'm friends with a donor/big KU presence who's been spot on about past things I pass along. Called him today about a separate issue then the firing. Here's all I got:

- Big donors didn't like Weis after getting to know him
- Weis needed a hard fought, close game with UT to save his job
- Orergen (sp) is a name donors brought up
- KU has a growing group of big donors willing to eat contracts/help in a pinch. KU is reaching a level of quick money guys the school has never come close to seeing. The new money has more interest in football than the older cartel.
- Zenger is on really thin ice.
- He personally thinks KU can't get the hottest of the hot Asst Coaches. Just his opinion.

That's literally I all I got. Cannot even expand on the above comments. Nothing about Bowen or his chances

@stevesie60

Incredible insight into KUFB right here folks.

I love how the KU donors have to consistently use their money to buy out coaches.  They have spent around $20 Million over the last several years just to get rid of people.  That would have been a decent start towards revamping their terrible stadium.  If they don't hit at least a triple with this hire, they are in big time trouble.

Would have covered about 95% of that dreamed about on campus Olympic Village they conjured up 7 or 8 years ago.  Instead that got a generic leased athletic complex in North Ottawa.

McNeil did a pretty good job as defensive coordinator at Tech, too.

I've been talking to ku fans all day and i think we're almost more excited about this coaching change/search than they are

It's just far more entertaining from this side of the fence...  They have absolutely ZERO chance at the coaches on their "dream list" and the coaches they do have a shot at, nobody has ever heard of.

Plus, aren't we within 30 days or so of hoops practice getting underway?  That makes all of this a moot issue anyway.

Then they need to fire Zenger because he's "mean to donors"....

Wefald says our stadium is a problem? When he was in charge KSU was still playing in the double-wide with the above ground pool out back. Even today they could only afford to put brick on one side of that POS.

The only reason BSFS has atmosphere is the 36-52,000 screaming hillbillies frothing at their toothless mouths. Granted, that excitement comes from years (decades) of winning a majority of their football games.

I went to a game there in the mid-80's when a group of fratters brought a keg in the stadium placed in a wheelchair with a blanket over it. Those 10 guys and the other 6 die-hards in that section had a great time.

The game day atmosphere in Lawrence is solid. Tailgating is pretty respectable at KU. The setting is fantastic. The problem is the product on the field for the last five+ years has the fans giving less than zero sh!ts about going in to the game.

it's pretty cute for ku fans to say that we only have brick on one side of our stadium, and then in another thread complain about the Memorial Stadium bathrooms flooding all the time.

How serious will any coaching candidate take them when they try and tell them how great Memorial is and how crappy KSU's stadium is?  How about when they lie about attendance, fan interest and talent level?  Any legitimate candidate will say "GTFOOMF with your setting, it's nothing but a hill.  You draw 25k fans and the stadium is in worse shape than your last coach"

We'll have brick on the North end next year...so 2 sides out of 4 aint bad. and, considering the urine river at Memorial Stadium...a KU fan here at work said they gagged while standing in line for a pretzel during the Texas game...and it wasn't the way KU was playing.

The most surprising part of this entire post is that there were apparently enough people at that game to form a line at the concessions.

When KU is rolling you can hear Thunderstruck clear into Lenexa. And that view!  You can pick out at least two Applebees from up there (Applebees on campus and Applebees Eastgate, but not the Applebees next to the Case IH).

I think KU should seriously consider Ron Prince.  We all know that Snyder left this program in a pile of crap, the facilities are awful, no setting, and Ron ended up 17-20 with several wins over Top 10 teams, contended for North crowns, and went bowling.  If he could do that at K-State, there's no telling what he could do with the facilities and setting in Lawrence.  Also, he's had more NFL experience since K-State so he will have a lot of new ideas to enact in Lawrence.  Am I completely off base here?  KU fans I know would probably slide down the piss troughs in the Mem Stadiums bathrooms with a 17-20 record, Top 10 wins, and fun and exciting style of play, not to mention, great non con schedules.

I mean, the KU job is kind of appealing if you think about it. Make millions of dollars to underwhelm ppl for two years and then retire. It's a coaches graveyard, but still.

If Ron Prince could win 5-6 games at Kansas State, he would be winning 8-9 games at Kansas, no doubt, but I don't think they will call him. They want a national championship. It's Harbaugh or bust.
