Eddie Robinson Classic participants could have a 14 game schedule...we did in 2000.  Iowa State had a 7-6 record before losing their bowl game in 2002.

Tom Herman is too smart and savvy to insult the mega-moneyed UT alums, who call the shots at UT, by hiring a guy who's won two games in two years.

That said, giving an extension and raise, with incentives for each win, to a guy with a 2-22 record is entirely consistent with Zenger's approach to KU FB.

All that salary stuff doesn't mean a whole lot unless they significantly bumped up Beaty's buyout as well. I'm guessing they were just able to afford paying him a little more because one of their former coaches is finally coming off the payroll.

No, I remember. Mangino's last year at KU would have been about an average year for McCarney. To compare the two is just ridiculous. And my god, Indiana football is terrible. They had a nice little run of barely getting bowl eligible, but pretty soon they'll be back to their 3 or 4 win every year selves.

Its really not as ridiculous as you think. McCarney was granted extreme patience and his first 5 years were awful while Mangino only had one of those. However, the last 7 years for each coach are pretty similar, Mangino's one really good year was just better than McCarney's.

True, and it was really bad. But Iowa State's program history is much worse, especially when you consider that McCarney is probably their best coach ever. Honestly, before Bill, only K-State was a worse program in the Big 12 and probably the country than Iowa State.

KU has had sporadic success and bowl appearances throughout its history, though Mangino arguable still had their best stretch for one coach.

I would pick Mangino over McCarney, but I don't think McCarney is that much worse.
