I would not take that bet. It's likely they'll find a good coach eventually...

curious........would you take the over or under on KU football having, let's say a 8 win season in the next 10 years ?

I think Beaty has them going in the right direction.  So I'll gladly take the over.

I could see them getting to 7-5 and a pud opponent in a bowl to make 8 wins before 2026.

8 wins?  i'd absolutely take the over.  odds are they'll improve to "bad" over the next 3 or 4 or 5 years.  "bad" teams can win 2 games a year.  where they're at now and for the last 7 years is damn near unprecedented in modern P5 football.

If Beatty gets them to six wins, he's out of Lawrence faster the the Douglas County DA can drop charges against one of Self's boys.

Self may be gone in the same time frame, though.  The next coach may not intentionally strangle football, or he may leave a slight window open, upon the beginning of his time on campus, that Beaty is able to gain some ground with the money ppl.   :dunno:

I don't think 8-win season in the next 10 yrs is an over/under bet, its a prop bet, and I'd handicap it at 1000-1. Probably worth a dollar.

Purdue, Illinois and Indiana are all on a higher level than ku. Rutgers may be on the same level, so there is posssibly one p5 team that would consider kiffin
Couldn't you make the argument that on a program level Rutgers is worse than KU?  I mean that only because their AD is a dumpster fire of epic proportions whereas KU views their football program as a niche sport that siphons money away from basketball.

You probably could, but they were an 8 win team and in a bowl game as recently as 2014.

Other thread related, but it happened to be March 2014 when UW scheduled Rutgers for 2016 and 2017.
That's an interesting component I hadn't considered, how well things are trending in your AD (nongoE trending of course).  With that in hand it makes it even harder to judge the two programs.

I'll take that bet! I'd be leery of putting money down if they only had to reach 7 wins, but 8... nope. They're approaching 10 years of complete disaster the way it is right now. Like it's already been said, any coach that reaches 6 years at KU is bolting for another school at this point. I just don't see 8 anytime soon. Hell Iowa State has only reached 7 wins once in the last decade and now you're going to tell me that KU, a program in far worse shape is going to surpass them?

Yeah, I'll take your money.

If the conference imploads and ku is finally relegated to the MVC, and they get a 2007-esque schedule that doesn't include NIU, SDSU, or Ill. St. I think 8 wins could happen.

They'll get into the Big 10, so we should be sizing up how they'll fare against Rutgers, Maryland, etc.  Maybe an easier ride than MVC.

Naw, they will be in the West so NU, Iowa, Minn, Wisky, NW, etc.  They won't win anymore but it will feel better getting beat 23 to 3 by Iowa instead of 45 to 13 by Oklahoma State

KU ATTENDANCE

2008:..........50,907
2009:..........50,581
2010:......... 44,851
2011:..........42,283
2012:..........41,329
2013:..........37,884
2014:..........34,077
2015:..........27,282
2016:..........25,828

Someone much smarter than I am can run the numbers on how much revenue our school has lost because of the abysmal efforts of one Sheahon Zenger.

So what's to blame here? Bad luck? Yeah, I'm going to go with no.

Zenger was hired January 2, 2011. That's nearly 20,000/game fewer now than the year he was hired, (and 25,000/game since we peaked). Assuming 6 home game/year, that's 120,000 fewer today since the year he was hired to "fix" football. Ticket sales, concessions, parking, apparel sales ... and of course the general Lawrence economy as well.

Oh yeah, well how about our Big-12 peers you ask? This is sickening:

TEXAS.........................97,880 (6)
OKLAHOMA................86,857 (6)
TEXAS TECH...............58,250 (6)
WEST VIRGINIA...........57,583 (7)
OKLAHOMA STATE.....53,814 (7)
IOWA STATE................52,557 (7)
KANSAS STATE...........51,919 (6)
BAYLOR......................45,838 (6)
TCU.............................45,168 (7)
KANSAS......................25,828 (6)

Those aren't typos. That's 20,000 less buying tickets here than anyone else in our conference: our peers! That's a lot of money left on the table ... and the AD isn't even trying to sell tickets anymore. They've tossed in the towel ... well because you know "nothing matters till we can win a few games," right fellas? And KU counts ticket sales, not actual attendance. Zenger has created a market for tickets in $20 max on the secondary market or on the street corner, and that's from THE FVKING ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT THAT DUMPS TICKETS ON STUBHUB!

Can anyone possibly give a salient reason why this failure should continue to guide that rudderless ship that he's made of the Kansas Athletic Department? Just one

Agreed.

Also, no way there were 25,000 at any ku games this year. They must be counting arms or taco johns give-a-ways or something

Wow, their massive apron string alumni who number 100k plus strong within 45 minutes of beautiful Memorial Stadium simply give no effs about football.

But, but, KU alum own Kansas City, which is only 20 minutes away from Lawrence, making KU a much more sophisticated fan base.  Heck, Lawrence is practically a suburb of Johnson county, any rube that argues KC is anyone's town but KU's is just ignorant.

Well, they definitely own the old-starter-homes-turned-lower-end-permenent-homes and all the non-college rental suburb areas.  There is no denying that.  Many of those places are a very quick jump on 10hwy from Lawrence, assuming your Ford Probe is running well.
