While I appreciate a good fan experience, I really just get my rocks off on drawing 200,000 seat stadium propers. But tell us about what you worked on.

Hey man, no question a mega-stade >> some ministry of propoganda headquarters, but I just work on what they throw my way!  We also did Reliant Stadium - home of the Houston Texaquatz - who at least had enough good sense to invite Optimus to work out at their camp.  That was before my time but i'll see if i can find some good insider-y photos.

Pro tip: if you ever find yourself in attendance at Reliant, DO NOT get draught beer when you pak!  Pound em outside or get bottles.  I promise you don't wanna know...

This would have been useful information in 2006
I think this yoman guy is on to something....

Looks like it is 215 to dead center.

Havs how is their weird little fieldhouse? Is it cool in an old-fashioned MVC way? I bet it is.

Awful sightlines and the stands are not steep at all. The arena is younger than I am too and has only seen one good Drake season in 2008. Regardless, I always enjoy a Drake/Creighton or Drake/UNI matchup at the Knapp Center, otherwise its the Nap Center.

In KU news, beems wants to raid KU's cancer research dollars to try and repair their crap stadium.

Quote
KU endowment is currently in the middle of a $1.2 billion fundraising campaign (Far Above).  When the campaign kicked off to the public in 2008, $612 million had already been pledged.  According to the website, one of the campaign goals includes $175 million for facilities upgrades and renovations.  Now, that money will likely be used for medical research and campus facilities as well, but a portion of it could possibly go to the football stadium upgrades.

they've had decades to cure cancer and have gotten nowhere.  the football team won a BCS bowl.  that's way more recent success than the cancer curing guys have had (and much more than KSU, I might add).  seems to me that the football team deserves this money much more than cancer.

NORTHWESTERN WILDCATSCATZ

Made the ~45 minute trip north with my bro in law.  Wonderfully beautiful drive by the lake.  What a fun, SkinnyBenny-inspired afternoon.

This is the facade of their WSC.  It's by far the nicest facade on the exterior of the stadium, as you'll see shortly.

Every other part of the exterior is a complete dump.  It looks like they're doing some kind of work on it, but we're a month away from Northwestern Football and it still looks like this all the way around the stadium:

I liked the "tickets" sign.

A lot of Northwestern's buildings have this ivy on it.  Their vanier has some.  Looks kind of weird.

Their "Wildcats" script font cracks me up.  It is as 90s as it comes.  You would think they would try to rebrand it and emphasize their new stripe more, maybe, but nope.  Wildcats script it is.  That script is as Northwesterneo as it gets.

Ok anyways moving onto the inside of the stadium.  It was hard to fit everything into one shot, so i'm going to post this stock photo just so everyone is oriented correctly:

Luv their wildcats on top of vanier.

So moving on, I loved their grass field.  It was very pretty and i almost laid down in it and took a nap.  The grass is the best part of the whole stadium because every other piece of it is small and falling apart.

Their Vanier is small and old but they have a tarp tunnel!   Wonder if they shoot the fog through it when they come out?

OOD is right behind the stadium.  Didn't go in there because i don't really care about bball arenas.  Sorry.  They have a skywalk that connects Vanier to the arena though:

They have a 4 ft berm that surrounds the field.  Standing in the endzone seats (which are pretty far from the field) isn't so bad because the field is sunk a little bit lower.  If it wasn't, those endzone seats would be dreadful.

I'd like to direct your attention to their dinky little scoreboard.  So pathetic.  Tucked away in the corner. Just barf. The scoreboard on the other side isn't much better. But hey!  ribbon boards!

Another weird thing is that the field is absolutely huge.  It was hard for me to judge where the sideline began because their's no paint obviously, but it seemed like the stands were a mile away.  On the plus side, they have tons of room for harley day.

Statue of willie in the endzone.  Reminds me of the one at old stadium.  We should probably put one in BSFS.

Their WSC isn't bad, relative to the rest of the stadium.  It's pretty small, but definitely not Iowa State small.  Also, they call their ring of honor the "honor roll" which is funny to me given Northwestern's academic prowess.

Here's the weird out of place portal SB referenced earlier in the thread:

Sloppy stuff.  HEY NORTHWESTERN, THE SEASON IS IN LESS THAN A MONTH.  GET YOUR crap TOGETHER.  YOU'RE IN THE BIG 10.  YOU WON TEN GAMES LAST SEASON.  YOU HAVE TO AT LEAST PRETEND TO TAKE THIS SERIOUSLY:

This sea of visiting stands is just the worst, although i do kind of like their nice 4 foot grass berm:

Sorry SB, no light porn to speak of.  I don't think they have lights/they don't play night games.  Big 10 is the worst.

Wow, just wow. 100 T-ys and 5 katpaks to field reporter Dlew for getting all up in the guts of a stade I've always dreamed of going to and subsequently making fun of on the internet. It's just so weird. The design is not one that you will find anywhere else in any other stadium on the planet. That parabola upper deck is so bizarre. Lower level views obstructed by giant beams? Ivy? LOL, you guys want so badly to still be playing at Wrigley.

I had absolutely no idea that the outer facade was so gross. I mean I guess I figured but I'd never seen it. The "get your crap together" call-out made me LOL IRL. But I think my favorite part was their script Wildcats truck. Gawd. Made me want to go to the Aloha Bowl all over again. And that sideways scoreboard? Barfsville.

Couple questions:

1. How did you get in? Are there a bunch of openings because of all the "construction"? Or do they do what total pud programs do and just sorta leave their stadium open because they don't have rival fanbases that care enough to break in and vandalize?

2. Will you see a game there? I recommend that Sept. 21st tilt against Maine.

3. Look at your photo that shows the mini-tron from the other end zone. In the foreground you see a little white chain that is serving as a "fence." Do you think they think that's actually keeping anyone out?!? Or do they just figure their fans don't give enough of a crap to storm the field for anything?

4. Where does the mystery portal lead? To an alternate universe where Northwestern plays in a real football stadium?

5. Do you already regret not going to their basketball arena? You should. It's so weird (from the pictures I've seen).

T-Y DLEW!

NW gets a pass, as a small private school.   The alumni at schools like NW and Vandy don't want their schools name attached to football factories, so they aren't forking over millions for extravagant facilities, only enough to stay in the game.

I enjoy watching NW play and I think Fitzgerald is a good coach, and I didn't realize until a few moments ago that Mike Hankwitz is their DC.

Well the gates were all locked but we walked around the entire facility and found one that was open.  There were some college aged employees buggering around in there.  They saw us and didn't bother us.

2. Will you see a game there? I recommend that Sept. 21st tilt against Maine.
Doubtful.  I'm really a nut on Saturdays in the fall.  I literally watch CFB for 18 hours.  Then again, K-State is off on the 19th of October when they face off against Minnesota.  So we'll see!

Well it kept me off the field.  The grass looked so pristine.  Also, i don't think NW has passionate enough fans to warrant any more of a deterrent.

4. Where does the mystery portal lead? To an alternate universe where Northwestern plays in a real football stadium?
I think it leads to a secret underground Glen Mason shrine.

5. Do you already regret not going to their basketball arena? You should. It's so weird (from the pictures I've seen).
a little.  i was with the bro in law and i'd been wandering around the stadium for about half an hour. felt like maybe he wanted to get going.

no they don't get a pass.  not when realignment is a thing. the university of chicago is a great academic institution but they're not in the Big 10.  if NW gets to sit at a big boy sports table then they should shape up.

I was wrong, they're building a $220 million dollar on campus facility (Ryan Field is about a mile away) that will be for football and student recreation.

Went to a Michigan State v. Northwestern game a few years back at Ryan Field. The whole east side was green.
