Yeah, watched that lastnight.  Pretty scary!  That's very close to where I live.

a venmo robbery is really stupid, right? like, it can be traced to a venmo account that's attached to a bank account?

I doubt they are linking it to their own info.

Seems pretty stupid, but also making me think I shouldn't link my venmo to my main bank account. Prob should have thought about that before anyway, but something like this happening would be a bummer. I don't keep a ton in checking, but way more than I'd want stolen.

i guess what i'm thinking is Venmo requires you to link to a bank account, and you can't really open a bank account easily with fake info (right?) so there's a paper trail back to somebody

People who rob people like this probably aren't the smartest people in general so I doubt they had fake info.

I am guessing that they are controlling another bank/atm card not in their name or they have a venmo debit card in someone elses name/fake name and transfer then hit an atm.

Man this just blows. He was apparently a really good person. I never made it in to eat there but heard good things. Incredibly sad and just senseless.

i cannot imagine a band at the height of their fame playing a charity softball game for a random midwestern radio station. there were 6000 spectators and somehow they only raised $5000

https://old.reddit.com/r/videos/comments/1gby5bu/kansas_city_school_tour_heartbreaking_conditions/

I'm just enjoying the comments of people being shocked that there is a Kansas City KANSAS that is completely separate from Kansas City MISSOURI and still being confused.

Quote
I learned about the two Kansas Cities today!

Quote
WTF there's "Kansas City" in both Missouri AND Kansas? WTF america agggh.....

Ah, looking at a map, there is PART of Kansas City which is in Kansas, which I guess this school is in.

So the school is in Kansas City, MO - but the district is in Kansas because that part of the city is in Kansas?

Quote
Chiefs don't play in Kansas.

Neither do the Royals, for that matter.

Honestly this would confuse the hell out of me as well if I wasn't from the area.

Quote
More to do with early settling and naming based around the rivers. Both KCs were founded as a consolidation of different settled villages and in this case there was a river, the Missouri River, which was also the boundary line of Missouri, separating them. They're named after the Kansas River, not the State. Missouri was already a state at that point, so the Kansas City on that side become part of Missouri. The Kansas side wasn't incorporated as a city until after Kansas was admitted as a state, ~40 years.

Like if you're from not the area/foreign I get their confusion. Every time I'm abroad I just default to "I'm from Kansas City" even when I lived in OP (who is going to know that). And people immediately hear Kansas and latch into that, whether it be from the wizard of Oz or just know Kansas is a state in the US. To then add that layer of "there are two of them and one is in Missouri and in general everything you know about KC is the n Missouri" just effs with them so much it's almost not worth diving into it.

It's like this towns that are split between Belgium and the Netherlands where it's all haphazard and to an outsider it's weird and if you had one be named "Belgium City" but most was in the Netherlands and you tried to explain that to anyone else it's going to come off as difficult/weird af
