surprised no one here is curious as to how this team, who didn't disclose their financing plans, won the bid.  did they even have cool pictures?

weird that it's all jokes and stuff when you guys obviously care so much about your city

They didn't disclose it to public but the city has now posted it for your viewing pleasure

I'm glad the city didn't bow to "hometown" team BS or threats of lawsuits or just the pretty pictures...they picked what they thought was the best financial proposal for the city/lessees.  I was swayed by the AECOM pretty pictures no doubt and still they are my top pick.

Here now are all 'clams deleted draft post for whomever won the bid.

AECOM - "I knew Sly would give in to the biggest company with the biggest lawyers...that's slyin' James for you.  Knew he had Husch Blackwell in his pocket.

JLL - Worst proposed design and won?  Seems legit.

B&M - well this is a huge surprise.  I predicted slyin' james would make sure they won weeks ago.

yeah I read it earlier, there's very little direction or detail in it but at least it's actual letters that form words on paper

those of you walking the streets of downtown KC with billion dollar boners should be pretty disappointed in this selection, would have been a much easier sell to the public (who doesn't want the new airport) if a hometown team was awarded the bid and that's why i was convinced it would go to one.  of course, having an actual strategy would be giving this committee and council too much credit.

dont' be angry clams, what do you want to discuss on the proposal?

* How about it's backed by a hugely successful Meridiam p3 financier?
* Two local construction firms are part of the bid (Weitz and Clarkson)
* It's total cost and monthly cost to airlines is below max, actually one of the better ones, and hence better for user fees (that you were very concerned about)
* They have SOM as an actual architecture firm
* selection committee wasn't swayed by pretty pictures (like I am still with AECOM's)
* Terminal done in 4Q21
* This was SWAs prefer proposal

I still want to see more details of how the selection committee decided on this proposal, as Quinton Lucas has called for.

So what's the next hurdle for this thing? Vote in November by the plebians?

So what's the next hurdle for this thing? Vote in November by the plebians?

council accepts recommendation and let's city proceed with agreeing to MOU (next week or two for that)

MOU agreed to & SOM releases some sexy renderings (hopefully before vote)

November 7 vote

New terminal 2021

clams & I crush some white russians waiting for our direct to LHR.

I do have concerns how small Edgemoor appears to be.  They don't seem to have projects of this scale in their portfolio....which is why organizations like SOM were brought in vs. what could be done in house at AECOM / B&M?  Can any of you cat engineering dudes break down the risk of a smaller firm doing this project?

SOM is good. IMO, it works out better in the end to have the Developer / Architect / Civil / MEP as somewhat separate firms rather than under one umbrella. Haven't paid any attention to any of these bids, but I'm excited that MCI is getting fixed.

I worked at AECOM for 9 years (5 in KC), and while they do have a pretty big office in KC and a good architecture group(formerly Ellerbe Beckett), I don't think anyone there does airport design.  At least when I was there, they did mostly stadiums and hospitals.  So the "local" presence there didn't mean a whole lot since most of the design work would've been farmed out to LA and a few other offices.  Now, generally they will "relocate" a team of people working on a major project, so there would be a handful living and working in KC while the project was going on.  Kindof how I was "relocated" to Michigan for a couple years.  If you count living in a hotel relocated.

Have never even heard of the firm that had their proposal selected.
