NBA careers on average have to be pretty short.  What is the tipping point for how many years he can put off the transition and not be able to make that amount of lost money back?  2Yrs?

60% of NBA players are bankrupt within 5 years of retiring. Maybe the extra school will give him the responsibility to handle his money better when he finally gets it. :dunno:

Man, that NBA stat is horrible.  NBA should offer some better rookie counseling.
To me it should be on the player's unions and especially on the agents.  At least some of the guys that stay in long enough get a pension but it really sucks for the guys that get hurt early and wash out in the NFL.

I found this link to be interesting if accurate http://hypersapien.hubpages.com/hub/Americas-Best-Retirement-Plan-Athletes-Pensions-in-Professional-Sports

College bball players rarely seriously injured, say what?   :jerk:

Anyone seriously supporting this decision is mathematically and financially challenged or trolling. LOL

good for him.  years from now he may blame his financial management team for his bankruptcy and tax debt/resulting prison sentence, but they won't be able to take away his education.

lol, great post

maybe someone is paying smart enough to make staying worth it

That was the first thing I thought.

His father figure, Phil Forte Sr., is filthy rich

I do have to say congrats to sekpoke; even with Ford as your coach its got to be pretty great to be an OSU hoops fan right now. Feel free to share any ADV stats charts with your OSU brethren next year as you guys dominate the Big 12.

give me a list of players that skipped the draft and were injured seriously so that they weren't drafted the following year.

Can hurt stock to come back if the following draft class is stronger (it will be) or if you play shitty (doubt in this case).  Would worry more about that than injury and that happens a lot

I like Ford's 2013 class and I would trade Weber for him in a heartbeat.
Five seasons in Stillwater and has only won one NCAA tournament game

Sutton left the program in shambles. I will take the guy who is recruiting top flight talent. If he can't win, you still have top flight talent for the next coach.

I would trade Weber for one of Ford's assistants (his choice) at this point.

Out of curiousity, how many NCAA wins do you expect Weber to have in Manhattan after 5 years?

If the bar were set at 1.5, are you taking the over or the under?

Bump.

Pett, GOSP, thoughts?

many OSU fans must wake up, smell their armpits, and just think man we smell great.
OSU has retained a NBA lottery player and arguably a couple of other NBA players.
OSU kept their coach, has piles of cash going into their program.
OSU horsecowgirls just won it all.

OSU is well-positioned. Hope for NCAA violations.

We have to get a real coach before any NCAA violations committed by OSU would affect us in any way.

Maybe Smart doesn't want to make the same mistake as Beasley.   Beas really needed at least another year.

I don't think Smart has the character issues that Beasley had.
