Picking Job (A) vs. Job (B)
« on: April 09, 2013, 12:29:04 PM »
So I have this friend who is in on two pretty nice job openings. Both jobs would start off with a base that's already $3000 more a year than his current salary + commission. Would you advice him to take:

Job A: A company called DSI. Selling software to other companies.

or

Job B: Robert Half. Staffing agency.

P.S.-You guys might know this friend. I'm hoping you would know what's best for him and his personality. Discuss.

'Grats on getting two job offers, Wackycat08's friend I probably don't know!!
I think what my friend Mitch is trying to say is that true love is blind.

Jobs based on commission must totally suck.

Sell software. They're not a competitor of mine so I wouldn't have to crush your "friend".

"Your friend" would meet a lot more fillies helping them find "jobs" than selling software. I feel a filly that uses a staffing agency would be very similar to the temps that come work at "my friend's" office. "My friend" cleans up on that deal.

Oh, I just looked up that company and they are actually a direct competitor of the software I sell. I would hate for your "friend" to become my sworn enemy.

I think the Software gig (he'll know structure Friday). However, the job agency would be similar to what he does now and have the opportunity to move up quicker. He has a friend who left the same company he works for and is making a killing.

OK, a better question would be which job has the higher commission/effort ratio? Like if the software place has a higher commission but you have to put in like twice as much work to make that commission then maybe not worth it.

It does ok for me. I actually do like going to work. I'll like it even more in a few months when we change offices and my commute is knocked down from 45 minutes to 15.

Good question. I mean let's be honest, the base is already more than what he makes now. So he's kinda playing with house money on the commission. He'll have more deets after Friday. He told both companies he'd have an answer Monday. I hear the job placing agency is a lot of hours.
