Eh, I kind of feel like the future is here and it's not nearly as exciting as I thought it would be. I mean, it's 2013 and the most impressive thing we have is an ipad.  :jerk:

We still haven't even cured cancer for Christ's sake.

I mean, touch screens blew my mind at the epcot center when I was 8, but we are still relying on the same basic forms of energy and transportation as we were in 1950. We have made huge strides in communication, so hopefully that will make the next 50 years more eventful than the last.

We're going to Mars soon.  That's pretty elite.

Also, I don't think many things get cured.  The money is in the treatment.  For example, I heard a thing on NPR this fall that said that there is a known drug that we could take to cure and prevent Lime disease, but that no one is producing it for humans because it wouldn't be profitable.  The same doctor said that the drug is being produced, but that it is being made for dogs only right now.  He said that they have heard many reports of ppl telling their Vet that they want it and having the vet prescribe it to the dog so that the owner can take it.  It's not cancer, but the situation is pretty mumped up.

They found a cure for cancer a long time ago. But there's less money in a cure.

Why are we placing so much faith in future tech and future pharm, then?

I think you're being overly simplistic. I also think as people understand more about the body you will see more healing and less treatment. It will probably take the US nationalizing health care to make it more of a reality, which I think would be great.

How long does it take to print a 3d printer? Is it faster or slower than the amount of time it would take for 2 robot workers to just manufacture one?

Maybe the first one or two, but once they follow the curve for a couple days, Clams will be crashing markets in southeast asia with his production levels.

QT will be giving out coupons for free 3d printers when you buy a hotdog.  Problem is that no one will redeem them because the cost of shipping will make the 3d printer twice as expensive as just picking one up at Wal-Clams on the way back home.

I'm going to 3D print the hell out of gasoline and be a future oil baron.  I will purchase 'clams 3D printer printing conglomerate and shut it down just because I can.  I will also be printing a bunch of gold and blood diamonds to sell.  Oh and also electricity, will be printing the hell out of that to sell to California.  You're welcome rusty.  I will be so goddamned motherfucking paid in the future.  Filthy, sons.
