here is that area coming in from the garage. that little square is the undercabinet keg cooler and the tap will be drilled up through the granite or whatever. if we had the regular door(s) they would open and bust someone in the ass who's pouring beer or block the walkway to the bathroom or something.

the undercabinet keg cooler seems worth it though.  are you extending the refrigeration across and under the wine bar area?  put wine, beer bottles, water, soda in it?

yep, one on each side of the litle bar sink. then glass front cabinets above it for glasses. will clear out the kitchen cabinets/fridge of all my booze related stuff.

that's going to be nice.  the pic i linked was sub z's that run +$2k but there are others that don't cost near as much.  big thing to look for is front exhaust.

good protip. I think the keg cooler/tap/CO2 setup will be about $1,500 but I'm hoping to get a cheaper glass front cooler for the other side. I want them to match though. I think Summit is the manufacturer of the keg system so I'll see what they have with front vent for the other side.

when i shopped for wine coolers i was told to find one with front exhaust, b/c otherwise the trapped heat can cause undue wear on the compressor.  seemed legit imo.

OK, the house is going to face SSW (annoying curvy neighborhood). The deck is going to be facing NNE on the "right" corner of the house. There is a window from the eat in kitchen area on the SWW side the deck and a sliding glass door on the SSW side of the deck. We have included in the build the deck being covered by extending the roof over it or whatever. Is that a bad idea give the direction the house faces? I'm worried it will block all the natural light getting into the kitchen. It will for sure block the sun getting into that eat in kitchen area window. I'm also worried it will block a lot of light getting into the kitchen windows perpendicular to the one that looks onto the deck. It would also save us about $5k to not cover the deck. But, I like covered decks a lot. THOUGHTS?

SD, My covered deck is right off of my eat in area that is facing mostly east.  It doesn't make the kitchen area dark at all, but it does block most direct light other than first thing in the morning when it shines like a laser pointer directly into the kitchen and into my eyes while I am cooking breakfast this time of year like I am a helicopter pilot over Tahir Square.

I still have quite a few plants in that area of my kitchen and they receive plenty of light.

Also, the question about effecting the sun in the windows perpendicular to the deck all depends on how high the cover roof is on the deck, imo.  I have windows that are similarly perpendicular to my covered deck that are about 5'-6' away and I never notice a shadow from the deck roof.

That all said, I am probably 20-30degrees off from you more toward the east from what it sounds like.

same brand as the keg cooler. seems like it would be good with dual thermostats for like bottles and cans on one side and wine on the other?

If you are really concerned about a lack of light in your kitchen, consider a pergola.  I have one over my patio and it is nice for the ability to mount ceiling fans, speakers and a tv.

The obvious down side is the area would not be rain proof so you would have to have a weatherproof box for the TV or just have a mounting set up that makes it easy to bring (that is what I do).

And since you have a walkout, I would look into what it would take to make the area below the deck dry so you could also have an outdoor room there that would be useable in almost any weather.

SD, do not do a pocket door for an exterior door.  I didn't go back and read, but iirc, you described that door as exterior.   Do not want.

What would be the down side to French Doors that swing out?  I guess having the hinges on the outside of the house is kind of a security issue.

Swinging two doors onto a normal sized deck is a bad idea if you plan to have a table, chairs, grill, etc on that deck.

From the pic SD posted, it doesn't appear there will be much in the area with what appears to be a wall to the top and the stairs to the bottom of the drawing.

Ooh, gross!  I agree, somehow I missed that it was exterior.

The obvious answer is a roller man door.

sd, I don't think anyone has said, this, but if you want to go full out elite and impress the eff out of everyone, install only LED's for lights. You won't have to call anyone to change a bulb for something like 20 years, they don't produce any heat, and it is smoother light than anything else you can use.

I think so. It's nice to have things our way. Once was enough though.
