for the millionth time and for a million reasons, currie would never fire oscar after this season no matter what happens this season.

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

New warning: Don't get in a fight with someone who doesn't even need to bother to buy ink.

YUP YUP YUP

In all likelihood oscar is here for at least the next five years.

2015 -> Marcus Foster's fault
2016 -> not much actual improvement, team showed grit without senior leadership and a player/scorer like Foster (assuming he leaves) *YOUNG TEAM*
2017 -> slight improvement (maybe win a couple NIT games) *YOUNG TEAM STILL, WAIT TILL NEXT YEAR* oscar gets three year extension

I think you are overemphasizing Currie's patience with oscar. I really don't think Currie will buy all of that. I get that he'll be patient with oscar because he hired him, but not that patient.

With this season oscar might get fired at a handful of programs like Kentucky or KU, but the majority of ADs would give him at least one more season, especially if they hired him. But at the same time, men's basketball provides too much of a revenue stream to remain overly patient and to expect another Jim Wooldridge scenario isn't realistic either.

But yeah, if oscar even manages an NIT next year, he'll be here for several more years. Next year will be enormous in dictating the length of his tenure at K-State, but I think most of us knew that after he made the NCAAs and won a Big 12 title his first two seasons.

A program like Illinois would have and did fire him, but then again we have emphatically proclaimed that we have lower standards than Illinois basketball.

Come on, Illinois did not fire him in 2008 in a season equally bad (probably worse) than this one. He got 4 more seasons after that.

currie has to admit he made a mistake when firing oscar this early into his a)initial hiring and b) his extension
currie doesn't want to put himself into the position of having to prove that he's a coach's AD after running a wildly popular coach out of town and then firing his replacement after winning the big 12

If the season continues down this path, I see Currie firing oscar.  The way the team is performing and losing (turnovers, shitty defense, losses to really bad teams....all with "Weber's players"), on top of the off-court issues and suspensions...I don't think the situation is something he can afford to ignore.  Attendance is down, and season ticket sales will drop next year to a level not seen since Wooly days.  A lot of money has been poured into the basketball department over the past 5 years to let the team fall to the bottom of the Big 12.  Weber is his hire, and if money talks he will have to do something.

Yes, he'll get next year, but if the program continues down this course he won't last more than 2 more seasons at the most. Considering the talent oscar has brought in besides Marcus Foster this looks like a real uphill battle.

2 more seasons after this season?  eff that.  might as well burn down the BPF too, because we won't have any use for it after 2 more years of this.

Does anyone really believe oscar will be fired after this season? I mean, hoping it will happen is one thing, but we all know it won't. If next year is an absolute disaster, it might. But 2 more seasons seems like a likely and more realistic scenario.

And if Marcus stays and oscar gets him figured out, next year will likely be better. I'm sure oscar will make his OOC so that it has to be better, oscar isn't dumb.

I know he won't be fired after this season, but if Marcus doesn't come back next year, which seems likely, and we don't make the tourney next season, he should absolutely be fired.  All of that should be plenty for the big donors who ponied up for the BPF to make Currie fire him.

:dunno: Name another program that immediately hired another coach from a major conference school who just got fired for on-the-court reasons?

Do those sound like programs that have high standards?

The absolute perfect time.  Unfortunately, Sporting Park has more cover than BSFS, but will likely have a slightly larger crowd.  Run it before the game also maybe.

What else can you expect when you immediately hire a coach who just got fired for being shitty?  When has that plan ever worked?

Looks like ole Chingon is in rant mode today!

Well yeah, the hiring of oscar was very questionable. But I think Currie still thinks he made a good hire to at least maintain the level of basketball that K-State was at. The fact that he fired Deb would lead me to believe he won't be overly patient with oscar either.

Also, I thought you were saying Illinois fired him after his first bad season and they did not.

No freakin way our goals should be NIT........or should it be NCAA.  It should be win a game or 2 in NCAA.

I see no positive progression in this program.  Each year we have gotten worse. And next year, you can only improve, more than likely, as this season is tanking fast.  But improve to what 17-18 wins and an NIT bid? No Way! The AD should be able to tell these players suck, the coaches can't recruit and can't motivate and can't give good instruction.

Our offense looks like no one knows what to do.  Gipson still does not know what a double or triple team is.

If we don't make the NCAA's next at the bare minimum, Weber should be fired! But looking at the roster, that is very doubtfull!!

oscar doesn't have much incentive to finish out the year well.  He's not getting fired after this season, so he can chalk up as many adversity points as possible for the remainder of the year.

Next year, water down the schedule as much as possible - get to the NIT/extreme bubble NCAAs, and boom - improvement and a 3 year extension.
